Visited on 2024/09/07.2024/10/18It seems that the National Cultural Affairs Council has recommended that this building be designated as an important cultural property. It was built in 1909 by Kichibei Murai, known as the Tobacco King of the Meiji period, as a guesthouse where he could entertain distinguished guests from Japan and abroad. From Hirobumi Ito, the first Prime Minister who visited here.``If you play in this building, you'll enjoy it and enjoy it forever.''So that's itIt was named ``Chorakukan.''Immediately after the war, it was requisitioned by the occupation forces and fell into disrepair. This time, I visited because I was told that I would be able to see Onari no Ma on the third floor and the tea room Chorakuan, which are usually closed to the public, during my ``Kyoto summer trip'' which ends at the end of September. When you tell the staff at the entrance that you are on a summer trip to Kyoto, you will be directed to the reception desk and told to go to the second floor.Take off your shoes at the designated area and carry your backpack in front of you to avoid damaging cultural assets. You can take photos.Walk on the red rug indoors and avoid stepping on the tatami mats.Unlike the other floors, the third floor of Chorakukan has a Japanese-based fusion of Japanese and Western styles. The Onari room has a folded coffered ceiling, flower-headed windows, wall paintings with houndstooth patterns made of gold and silver leaf, and a Baccarat chandelier.Chorakuan, a tea room said to be a copy of Omotesenke's Zangetsu-tei, has Japanese-patterned stained glass windows.etc. are the highlights.Publication times vary depending on the day, so be sure to check beforehand.

Chorakukan is a special placeThis time I used the cafe.Mont Blanc and Plaque tea in a classical roomMy partner is a Viennese coffee with a nostalgic rose cream flavor.A wonderful space where the hustle and bustle of Maruyama Park is a lie, where you can spend quiet time.

I was able to see it during a special viewing in the summer of 2024. I was lucky because I usually don't get to see anything other than restaurants.

At the 49th ``Kyoto Summer Journey'' special exhibition of cultural properties, I had the opportunity to view ``Chorakukan Onari-no-ma''. This wonderful structure was built in 1902 as a guesthouse for businessman Murai Kichibei to entertain guests from Japan and abroad.
