Location was perfect! Quiet and close to convenience store, restaurants and coffee shop. Host was very kind and made sure that we had all we needed. The sake bath was very nice and we enjoyed the complimentary Yukata she lent us during our stay.

Very nice traditional Kyoto style house that is rented out by the owners who live next door. The check-in process was easy enough with the owner coming over after being paged via intercom to go through how the house works, as it is quite historic and has its own unique quirks. The entry area is nice to experience a bit of history, and the bath and kitchenette is downstairs, but with the toilet upstairs (which made for a bit of an annoyance, but expected with such an old house). As for the bath, it is a nice traditional wood bath that is clean, and a sake bath is even provided which was quite refreshing.Climbing the steep stairs grants you entry to a living/lounge area and the bedroom. The beds are traditional style which are laid on a tatami mat, and are much more comfortable than they look! Well functioning heaters are provided as well as basic water, coffee, and tea. The inn's own sake can also be had at a modest price.Overall, I would recommend for a short stay to get the experience, but for longer stays, the separate toilet and bath and the numerous things to remember that are inherent with staying in a traditional home (working the water heater, light switches, entry code, etc) would start to prove a little bothersome. Still, I would highly recommend a stay here for anyone passing through Kyoto and who wants to get that "experience."

I experienced my dream of renting out an entire townhouse using GoTo!It's spacious and luxurious enough for a couple. Although it was possible to have a catered meal, we decided to take a trip to Pontocho along the Kamogawa River. There are plenty of attractions in the surrounding area, including Gion, Yasaka Shrine, Chion-in, and Heian Shrine. I would like to use it again if I have a chance!

This place was amazing. The architecture of the Machiya is pristine and still embodies 1810 Kyoto. The simplicity is utterly amazing and service was amazing as expected. It was a honour and pleasure being able to experience a peice of Japanese history.
