I couldn't imagine a more perfect place to stay in Kyoto. Amazing location within walking distance to so many spots we wanted to see while visiting Kyoto - yet also in a very quiet and peaceful neighborhood. The home was just beautiful and was a perfect mix of modern amenities and traditional charm. Luxurous bathroom to boot! We referenced Curtis' binder full of recommendations daily, and they were always on point and very useful during our stay. Check-in was a cinch and the instructions were extremely helpful. We can't wait to come back and stay here again. I can't recommend the Ingido House enough. Thank you for making our Kyoto trip so wonderful!

My wife an I had an excellent stay at Indigo House. This was a unique accommodation in a great location for touring the city. We were very comfortable, and Curtis and Junko were readily available for support. Worth the expense!

Probably one of the best places I've ever stayed at (and I've stayed at quite a few over the years). The check-in process was super easy, and they were very communicative and proactive with the check-in instructions and directions to the property. The inside of this place is so magical. It is impeccably clean, with old-world charm that has all of the modern amenities you'd need. It is in a very quiet and walkable area of Kyoto, and they provided a number of local recommendations and tips for the area. Overall, I could not have been more pleased with my time in Kyoto and staying at this place fully enhanced my experience of Japan. 10 out of 10 endorse a stay here. Thank you for a wonderful trip!

We stayed 4 nights at this beautiful machiya house for our honeymoon. The house is very comfortable and we really felt at home. It is spacious, the bathroom is great with a large shower and a bathtub with a view in the inside garden to relax after a long day sightseeing... The kitchen is very well equipped which was perfect for breakfast and dinner preparation. The location in Gion district was perfect and it was very quiet. Chris and Junko were wonderful hosts, before and during our trip. We would love to go back!

We were fortunate enough to stay at the Indigo House in old Kyoto recently. Curtis and Junko were amazing hosts and ensured our stay was perfect. Knowing it was our anniversary they surprised us with a bottle of champagne to celebrate and assisted with dinner reservations when necessary. The property itself was next level as was the location. 100% recommended if you’re in the hunt for a home base while exploring Kyoto.

Indigo House (Upper Level) was the perfect refuge after a long, busy day in Kyoto. Removed from the hustle and bustle of Gion, this elegantly restored machiya leaves no detail unattended to. From the beautiful Japanese bud vases with live flowers in the kitchen area and the main bedroom, to all the amazingly intricate, exquisite wood work, the luxurious shower, the sleek and seamlessly installed kitchen with Scandinavian-style furniture (which matches the machiya perfectly), the open “tsubo-niwa” or open-air courtyard it shares with the first floor (check out the photos to see what I mean), the spare, sublime tatami rooms and extremely comfortable bed and futon. It’s an aesthetic space that is heaven for lovers of Japanese interior design and surely a breath of fresh air to those new to it. You’re able to really just unwind and take in the ambiance of an old machiya that’s updated with modern comforts without at all taking away from its priceless old world charm. To top it off, Curtis and Junko were incredibly warm, friendly, and accommodating, and even helped me make reservations for Saihoji (the “moss temple”) two months in advance. Indigo House was one of the highlights of our trip, something my friend and I both looked forward to greatly, and it did not disappoint. I’d highly recommend it over a similarly priced hotel for a much more integrated experience in traditional Japanese culture. You won’t regret it!
