I am writing this review in Delhi of 6 years. You deserve 100 times more appreciation, we forgot our bag on the train to the city center right when we landed in Japan, the whole load of culture and lack of understanding gave us a very complicated landing experience. We arrived at this hotel without a bag and after the check-in time. The hosts listened to us and were warm and one of them volunteered to drive all the way to Yokohama to pick up our bag to help us as much as possible (which we planned to do the next morning). The other host took us to a Yakiniku restaurant to enjoy our first restaurant in Japan and gave us a tour around the hotel, even sat down to eat with us and was an amazing person with a big heart. We returned to the hotel after the meal and the bag was waiting for us in the room! Never would have happened anywhere else, the craziest first impression of the destination we had.The ryokan was amazing, the mattresses very comfortable and an outstanding authentic Japanese experience. Everyone had a kimono to wear and the hosts brought us breakfast which was also excellent and unusual.Fantasizing about returning to Japan since then, we will return to the exact same hotel only with a bag on our back and not in Yokohama.Thank you very much for an unusual experience!!

Charming old house and an interesting experience but everything seems dilapidated and most doors feel like they are about to break. The house is extremely noisy due to nearby train station, a busy road, and a fire station. We visited in winter so it was also very drafty and the toilet and bathroom were freezing. The neighborhood was rather dead. The house has super steep stairs and very firm mattresses.Positives are the look of the house, amazing breakfasts, having a living room table, and the nice staff. It looks like they are well aware of all the drawbacks and trying to make up for them with the extra bathroom heater and noise cancelling ear plugs. Unfortunately the bathroom heater spreads the smell of gasoline across the house.Overall, cool experience but not worth the steep price. It was the most expensive and the least comfortable ‘hotel’ out of the 10 we did in Japan so far.

Traditional Japanese house. Not too much space and nectar to a noisy road but fantastic hosts on hand who went out of their way to make your stay memorable

Bamba Hotel was our first stay upon arriving in Tokyo, and we were there for two nights. It’s located literally 30 secs from Shimbamba station, which is super convenient. The 3 story traditional Japanese apartment has the charm of an 80 year old building, yet with all your modern day comforts! The futon beds were surprisingly comfortable, the place was very clean, and we loved the experience of having a “home” to return to. The owner Taka was super friendly, hospitable, and full of suggestions; he took my husband and I on a tour of the neighbourhood when we first arrived, and pointed out all his favourite restaurants! Breakfast was brought to us both mornings (your choice of Western or traditional Japanese), and cute little notes were left for us in the evening if we didn’t see Taka / his staff during the day. Thank you Taka, Yoshi, and Misuzu for providing us with such a wonderful stay in Tokyo! We can’t wait to return :)
