Great sea view from West wing, but Japanese-style room was a bit tired and could do with more careful cleaning. Great onsen facilities. Spa hotel feel with lots of tourist groups. Best to have a car - it‘s a bit of a walk uphill from the village. Very attentive staff.

Because of this hotel being large and somewhat old, I was really surprised by how it was kept well cleaned, refurbished and how great the amenities were working. The room was spacious, quite welcoming and comfortable.I would say that dinner and breakfast were surprisingly decent to fairly well rated - lots of options to choose from and the quality of the food was decent+.Onsen was delightful. 5 pools in different temperatures and many showers and lockers.Location is great - 9 mins drive from Shiretoko Nature Center.I would definitely recommend staying here if you need to sleep near Shiretoko.

This is a review of the onsen only.On our second full day in Utoro, we decided to try out the onsen at Shiretoko Daiichi Hotel. For some reason the lovely ladies at the Tourist Information Centre told us that this onsen was only open from 3pm to 5pm, but a quick check of the hotel’s web-site rubbished that claim. It is open from 3pm to 9:30am the next morning, more than enough time for you to get well and truly soaked. The lady that greeted us at the front counter spoke perfect English, and unlike our previous onsen experience in Utoro made us feel very welcome and provided concise information and directions. The onsen itself is gorgeous. Huge, by contrast to almost every other onsen I have visited in Japan (save for Spa World in Osaka). 8 working pools (and 2 empty ones which were probably only ornamental given their depth). A sauna that was a good temperature, and a myriad of wash stations. Even the locker room was huge.Others patrons were all from the hotel, and we met some lovely people. Still, however, most people don’t seem to utilise onsen as places to socialise… so different to my experiences in Taiwan. This cost ¥1,250 including towels. It was well worth it.

This hotel was a huge surprise on our wildlife tour. The rooms were like suites with a separate sofa and living area. Comfortable beds and a great view of the frozen sea. …

Best Onsen I have ever been in. There is no advertising but they do Day - onsen rates for ¥1,250. It's one of the most expensive I've been in but it had about 10 different pools, sauna and everything else you might need. Would 100% recommend after a long day hike.

It is absolutely one of the nicest hotels I have ever stayed in. Because we stayed for 3 nights, we got two horsehair crabs for free with dinner. 5 stars all around.

Location was not great as we need to ask for help at bus station to call hotel personnel to come and pick us. Staff was very helpful and facilities were good.Breakfast and dinner were fine but not to our expectation for the price they charged.

The shower in the bathroom is broken as there is no water coming out from the tap. I talked to the staff and were told they would check it out and reply to me as soon as possible. …

The hotel must have renewed their interior, it’s all very clean, new and modern, unlike most of the onsen hotels we stayed in rural areas of Japan. The room is very spacious, price is quite reasonable. The onsen looks quite gorgeous and is again, very new and clean. Staff are friendly. The breakfast was very good with wide variety of food to cater different needs. High recommend if you go to that area.
