The private open-air bath is nice.I was concerned that it was not tidy in some places, probably because it was run by a small number of people.

Stayed here in February 2020 for 1 night. The hotel is located quite far from the bus station and it is a walk up and down the hill which can be a little intimidating when the road is iced over or there is heavy snowfall. The dinner was enjoyable with excellent beef and with additions like pizza. While there is no outdoor hot springs, there is a mix of communal and private hot springs that you could use. It was a comfortable stay with a nice dinner but nothing particularly memorable. There is also a roof terrace which you could go and get views of Zao Onsen.
