I spent a few days in Fukuoka Guesthouse Ship and loved it. This is a tiny place in an old traditional house. Don’t expect a lot of space to move around or super fancy equipment (although it is more than fancy enough, it’s Japan y’know? 😅). Instead, come here for the MOOD! I finally felt like I was in a real hostel, not in some kind of cheap dorm where nobody talks to each other. The staff is great and super helpful (and speaks perfect English), the guests are fun to hangout with and you’ll probably leave with new (mostly Korean 🤣) friends! Oh and did I mention the rice straw smell of the tatamis in the dorm? 🥰

Horrible employee/ownerEDIT: Owner here says he doesnt work there but this is not true as i hear from staff he works there and they also had to walk around their toes around this individiual.Sorry if saying somebody is bold is a bad thing but he had very little hair then i hope that is better to say.I wanted to drop off my luggage at 1045 before I went to explore the city. A guy came out so I took that door and went in. No staff. I waited patiently for someone. A bald man snapped his fingers near my ear like I was a dog and then pointed at my socks that I had to wear sandals. My apologies but I will not be treated like a dog before I could do something another guest stepped in and calmed the situation down. The bald man kept sighing dramatically and saying negative things in a low tone.He looked at me like he wanted to fight me, a horrible man. I almost wanted to give him what he wanted but luckily I could control myself.I left my stuff and when I came back later there was a nice young man Harv who helped me a lot. He told me that I could get back into the hostel in the evening with a code. Perfect I thought. I went drinking and eating in the city and got home just after midnight.I wanted to enter the code but there was no way. The machine didn't seem to workSo I knocked quietly on the window. My "good" friend the bald man opened the door and pointed aggressively at his watch.Am I too late? Am I not allowed to come home when I want? What is this a children's school?I didn't say anything so as not to bother the other guests and went to bed.In the morning I was woken up at 0600 by the first other guest checking out and that repeated itself every hour. This hostel is nice but way too small for the amount of people there. It is absolutely not recommended.I also advise the bald man to find another job, nobody wants a grumpy and aggressive man as the face of a hostel.Respect for the other young guys their having to put up with that little man

I received very kind service from the staff, Yuji. Although the price was a bit high for a guesthouse due to the peak season, it was clean and pleasant. I am willing to visit again in the future.
