My partner and I stayed here in February and it was probably one of the best experiences I’ve had at a hostel (and I’m pretty well travelled). Beer on tap, quite when it needs to be and the owner Gas is super helpful with anything you need wether it’s getting to and from the slopes, grocery runs or just heading down to the onsens for a dip. Not to mention he is a local in the back country which even though we didn’t get to ride with him. We hope to return for some runs together in the future. One of the highlights was the option of having chefs in the kitchen cook meals for everyone each night. I honestly couldn’t fault them. Great Japanese food to finish of a big day. Not to mention it was all gluten free optional which was a big repeat for my partner who is a celiac.I try not to visit the same place twice but I have no doubt we will be back to visit in the future.

A beautiful large house in the mountains of Hakuba, which is actually a little too far out of town, but very cheap and still well connected thanks to the free shuttle service provided by the friendly host. The ski areas nearby are not particularly expensive by European standards, there was a lot of fresh snow in March, which made it a very nice ski area for us.The house was very nicely decorated in Japanese style and in season you can get dinner for a good price.I met a lot of nice and interesting people there and I really enjoyed it.

You can make friends with foreign skiers / Cheap / Close to the ski resort / Shuttle service available / Recommended for those who want to save money on lodging with English available / Shared room has 3 bunk beds / Fully booked when I went in February / Everyone was tired from skiing I go to bed right away, so my bedroom is quiet.

The food was wonderful. The shuttle runs had impeccable timing! Those who enjoy meeting new people, hanging out in common areas, sharing stories, and enjoy a good laugh, this is the place for you!

Look no further for a unique Japan experience. This is a welcoming and cozy guest house with excellent food and a personal touch. Gaspard is a knowledgeable and fantastic host and does everything he can to meet guest’s needs. They offer private and dorm rooms with comfortable beds. The Bohemian’s Shelter usually hosts interesting young and older travellers alike, and the calm and friendly atmosphere is perfect for making friends to ski with. The snow monkeys often seen outside the windows are adorable. And the snow - 10/10. A real gem in Hakuba and I have returned time and time again.A note for my backcountry seekers - Gaspard is a serious backcountry enthusiast and has the beta and great recommendations for safe places to go touring.(Note that the photos are from early season before the mountain opened - there is usually a few metres of snow on the ground)

Awesome place to stay with an amazing host. Gaspard is extremely welcoming, helpful, and kind. The shelter felt quite spacious with plenty of room in the dining area and the communal spaces.Shuttles to the resorts and town were provided on convenient time schedules.Nothing but good things to say 10/10 would recommend.

建议在预定之前三思,虽然这家店好评很多。The most stressful and traumatizing hostel experience among 100+ hotels/hostels/Airbnb I’ve stayed over the years. Be aware that this place is not for everyone, despite overwhelmingly good reviews.Note - there is no public shuttle. Restaurant/Onsen/Bus stop are not within walking distance, as you can tell from Google Map (30 min+ by foot). Hence you have to depend on private shuttle offered at the courtesy of the owner, which can make things complicated at times. The place functions more like Airbnb than hostel - while it has a human touch, you have to keep a lot of things in mind and it’s meticulous. The communication can be confusing and passive aggressive at times. Some of the guests are very rude and judgmental. It’s more like a boarding school dorm (not even college)….and they create a lot of tension in this reclusive & suffocating space. At least the owner is open to communicate, responds quickly and tries to be helpful. However, it would be more effective if he gets involved earlier and everyone gets upset in the end.Just know that you do have the option to talk and leave, if this place is not for you. There are a lot of better alternatives that will give you that peace in mind and still affordable.
