Whilst planning on walking the Kumano Kodo trail for 4 days, I struggled most finding accommodation for the Koguchi area. Thankfully through the Kumano Kodo website, I found this gem of a guesthouse!A family home of 7, we emailed them the night before and they kindly agreed to pick us up at at the bus stop at the end of our hike at 3:30. After a 20/25 minute drive, we arrived to their house and were greeted by their goat! The hosts were very accommodating to our needs and even though they weren’t able to speak great English, through Google Translate, we were able to communicate with them pretty easily. The food was great and we particularly loved the outdoor bath.Highly recommend this place if doing the Kumano Kodo trail!

We were lucky enough to taste the amazing food! We stay over at Noad and asked for a stay with lunch, dinner and breakfast included. The food is amongst one of the best we found on our trip. It is hard to find veggie food along the way - but here they have it 🤩❤️ we are looking forward to one last dinner tomorrow ❤️ thank you for all the love you've put into this food. ごちそうさま。!!

A homestay at the end of a road, literally. The family has an interesting perspective of life, living fully within their means and the food that they make are really delicious. We had dinner and breakfast here! This is a really off the beaten path find that you will have a fantastic experience of. If not the goat and cats onsite will give you a friendly nod too.

They are closed during the winter months. This information is not available in English. My Japanese friend told me this. They will reopen on March 30, 2023.

The Goemon bath, which is cooked with mountain water and firewood, is the best. The dishes made with home-grown vegetables are also delicious. They prepared food that was easy for children to eat. It's also fun to talk with the shop owners who have various experiences. There is nothing urban about it, but you can experience Kumano's rich nature and the way of life rooted in it.

The host couple (along with their five children and animals) provide accommodation while working towards becoming fully self-sufficient.I think it's worth it to have a meal that's made with home-grown ingredients. If it's sunny, you can see the stars from the Goemon bath.Internet is fine with free Wi-Fi, but mobile (au) is just barely there. There was a problem, but they kindly took care of it.
