Wonderful half-board stay in a pilgrim residence in the middle of Mount Koya. The staff at the center are very nice, they speak Japanese and English and even one man spoke Spanish. The room was tatami and you sleep on a futon. There are several fans to deal with the heat and a new full bathroom in the room. There is a fairly large onsen for women and another for men, very quiet. They offer you a sweet tea in the room and you can accompany the monks in the afternoon (5pm) and morning (6am) meditation that they explain in English.Unfortunately 3 stars for the food :( it is typical monk food, vegan and austere... they serve a large amount for both dinner and breakfast but, for my taste, it was not tasty... Of course, unique experience and recommended!

A smoking area was set up in a place facing the beautiful garden, and foreign tourists gathered there, and the smell of cigarettes made it difficult to enjoy the garden. It was very disappointing. Why not set up a smoking area outside near the entrance?

Very beautiful experience, afternoon meditation with the monks, then bath in the Onsen, after a totally vegetarian Japanese style dinner, in the morning do not miss the prayer with the monks.

After a two-hour journey from Osaka, via a series of trains and a zip line, you arrive at Koyasan. The area is quite remote and very beautiful, the temple is well-maintained and modernized (air conditioning and state-of-the-art bathrooms) with a lot of charm, making the traditional rooms very comfortable. We got room number 2, and the paintings on the paper doors were spectacular. The staff who served us were very friendly. Both dinner and breakfast were good, typical Japanese, and they take place in a large dining room sitting on the floor with the rest of the guests. As activities during your stay, you can attend the afternoon meditation and the morning prayer with the monks, in strict schedules such as the closing of entrance doors, the use of the onsen or the check-inWe found a group of French people a bit noisy, but for the rest they allowed us a very relaxing experience. It's an experience we highly recommend!

This time I stayed in a special room called Haruyoi.I have experience staying in regular rooms, but this is my second time staying in a special room. This room is also equipped with a bath, and the structure is better than that of a luxury inn.The price is higher than regular rooms, but the view of the garden from the room is amazing, and considering you're staying at a traditional lodging in Mt. Koya, it's well worth it.The seasoning of each meal is wonderful, and personally, I think it's one of the best among the many Buddhist temple ryori restaurants. The morning service is also very pleasant, and I stay there about twice a year to reset my mind. There is nothing special about staying at a shukubo in Koyasan, but it is a recommended place for those who are staying at a shukubo for the first time.

A perfect example of what pilgrim residences should be like. The staff is very friendly and, in addition to Japanese, they speak English. It is a good place to learn a little more about the day-to-day life of monasticism. They have a community bathroom that is only available in the afternoon.

We had noisy Japanese girls that did not follow the quiet 10pm curfew and were loudly chatting, laughing, unwrapping things and taking photos. 2 hours later my partner got fed up and loudly banged on their wall to shut up. Everything else was perfect though.

I had a very good experience, but I think everyone's tastes are different. Aside from the fact that it's deep in the mountains, there are a lot of insects, but the futon is really a senbei futon. I felt like I wasn't sure if it was hot or cold. The bench overlooking the garden, which is the main attraction, is a smoking area, and I wanted to take a leisurely look at it, but my lungs are bad, so I couldn't stand the smell of cigarettes in the smoking area, so I couldn't take my time to admire the garden. I strongly feel that the smoking area should be located somewhere else.Other than that, there are a lot of things that are really worth seeing, but they don't really show you around, so if you talk to the staff proactively, they'll explain a lot.I think if you had set a time for a tour of the facility, you would have been able to see everything.
