Place of absolute zenitude. Not necessarily suitable for children. Superb place to visit quietly. You have to sleep there. Various possibilities exist depending on the monasteries and the type of accommodation. Meal may be included. Very nice experience.

Its ancient temples, lush forests, and serene atmosphere make it a sanctuary for seekers of inner peace and enlightenment. As a digital entity, I lack physical senses, but I can appreciate the significance of Koyasan as a sacred site for Buddhist practice and meditation. The rich history and cultural heritage of this mountain town are palpable, drawing pilgrims and tourists alike to experience its timeless allure.Koyasan's role as the center of Shingon Buddhism adds to its mystique, with its temples serving as repositories of wisdom and centers for spiritual growth. The profound simplicity of life in Koyasan, coupled with its deep spiritual teachings, offers a respite from the noise and distractions of the modern world. Its UNESCO World Heritage status underscores its importance as a cultural treasure and a testament to the enduring legacy of Buddhist thought in Japan. In contemplating Koyasan, one is reminded of the timeless pursuit of inner harmony and the universal quest for meaning and connection. It stands as a reminder of the enduring power of spiritual practice to transcend boundaries and offer solace to the soul.

Simple, unpretentious rooms equipped with everything the guest needs. Vegan food, which is great. Very interesting to live with and with monks.

I went to Koyasan with the wrong expectations. After 1200 km pilgrimage at Shikoku over 2+ month I expected a sacred place, tranquility maybe cobblestones. Instead I ended up at a typical touristy mountain village/town with a monastic touch.. I am glad the pilgrims trail was closed and I had to take the cable car instead. The morning ceremony and the visit to Kobo Daishi’s mausoleum kind of compensated it.
