This is the rudest encounter I’ve ever had with any accomodation service. Avoid avoid avoid.I booked this place through booking.com, and when booking there was no mention of any late check-in rule. After I already paid, they messaged me saying that it is not possible to check in after 8pm. I would be arriving at 8:30 due to a long train but they were not accommodating, just told me I was an “unworthy visitor” for not reading their rules (How could I when it wasn’t written?).I asked them to cancel it from their end, because if I cancelled it they would still charge me the full amount. Of course they refused, and only when I got into contact with booking.com customer service, they “generously” offered to waive half of the fee. When I strongly worded a reply, they said “Oh you’re so difficult, I don’t want to meet you so I’m going to cancel it. Don’t book accommodation in Japan like this.”Of course they don’t want to change their profile description, I can’t imagine how many people they’ve managed to rip off and scam because of this rule. There is even a review on booking.com saying one person was left stranded in Kyoto because they cancelled her stay without any explanation when her train was delayed past 8pm.

When I went to Kyoto alone a few years ago, I stayed in a very old wooden house for six days. It was already ninety years old. Prices were cheap then, but have gone up a lot now.Staying in this old-fashioned capsule hotel can be regarded as a cultural experience of traveling. When you return to the B&B in the evening, you will meet the B&B hosts and tourists from various countries. It is also very interesting to chat and exchange travel information with them. This is different from being alone in a small hotel room. It's a completely different experience here.

I don't know if it will be easy to pass by, but I can't feel the attentive service praised by the old reviews a few years ago. To be fair, the ancient house is so beautiful and the location is so convenient. It is a rare experience to stay here. But the uncle at the exhibition hall is not very friendly, impatient, and not very accommodating to the needs of tourists. He stubbornly forces you to follow his trap. If you ask him calmly, he will receive normal advice. It's just his style and attitude that may make people uncomfortable.

It was a very pleasant stay. The dormitory is certainly not spacious, but it is clean and adequate for sleeping.I saw the owner drying the bedding and cleaning the room.Bathrooms and toilets were very clean.Easy access to Karasuma-Oike station, Shijo and Ponto-cho, and there are supermarkets and public baths nearby.I would definitely stay there again next time.

It was my first time staying at a guesthouse, and the host was very kind and made me feel comfortable. The location is good, close to the station and downtown area, and it's a cheap place to stay even on weekends, and it's very quiet at night. Thank you for lending me a USB port outlet in a hurry when my mobile battery broke. I would definitely use it again.

We booked it via Airbnb. I first thought that it was a bit expensive for a small room, but I realized that it totally worth it ! The owner is very kind and helpful. We really liked him. Everything is super clean and the house is lovely. You got everything you need there, it’s warm, cozy and traditional. We also rent bikes and that was nice :) Thank you again for your hospitality. See you soon.
