We found this Izakaya place randomly, and I am very glad we did. We had extremely tasty and tasteful food. Special mention for the Okonomiyaki stick, absolutely delicious. Nice menu for drinks too. I recommend for an authentic experience and amazing food.Cheers from "Berugi"!

It was already very late when I arrived in Takayama on the first day. I passed by this restaurant and wanted to go in for a meal, but it happened to be reserved. I stood at the door with my friend and searched for other nearby restaurants that were still open. The boss came out and asked us where we were from. Come? What kind of food do you want to eat? And tell us which way to go to find more restaurantsWe passed by again after dinner the next day, and it happened to be still open. This time, there was no one in the store. We ordered some snacks and drinks, and had a leisurely late-night snack in the store. Before leaving, the boss asked us about the festival introduction. Do you want to participate in the festival the next day? It’s very thoughtful!

The owner seems to be racist towards foreigners. We came here to eat and was turned away. We were told the restaurant is full when there were three bar stools and one booth available. The only other booth in was occupied by three older Japanese gentleman. If you don’t want to serve tourist then don’t put out an English menu on the street.*Update* It seems the owner has responded calling me shallow and rude. I find this hilarious considering he was the one that was rude. The only thing that was said to me was “full, no tables” No explanation was given, nothing. There is was no signage stating there needed to be reservations and again, if you require reservations, you need to tell the person instead of pushing them out the door saying “no.. full”. I came by here earlier in the day when this business was closed and read the menu, which is why I went back tonight. Eat here or stay here if you must, but rest assured he’s a liar. There are plenty of other places to eat and stay in Takayama, find some place other than this one. When the owner issues an apology I will remove my negative review, otherwise it stays.

This. Is. Just. Incredible.Don San is the paramount example of Japanese hospitality. He offers a variety of shots, cocktails and other beverages. He serves them with juiciest and most delicious Karaage (fried chicken) I have ever tried. Together with other delicacies. He even offers a great jamón Serrano! You pay for the drink and the food.Don's fun talk, sympathy, help and advice to visit the region. Those are priceless, and he doesn't charge for them. Now I need to come back to Japan again. To meet a friend I've made.

Guy decided to ignored us and we had to find another hotel. Because of that I spent few hours at cold and I ended with flu. Be careful and think twice before you booking this place.
