We just stumbled upon this cafe while Walking back to the town from hida no sato. Bloody orange juice was refreshing, coffee and orange muffins were really good. The sitting arrangement is very nice.

We stayed here for two night with half-board, meaning breakfast and dinner. This is an almost 200 year old traditional Ryokan B&B which is an absolute treat if you want to try something very traditional japanese. You leave your shoes outside (of course) get greeted with the nice family hostess who explains the rules of the house, how to wear your supplied Kimono, bathing, toilets, etc. Restaurant in the bottom floor, rooms are on 1.st floor and very sparse. There are tatami-mats, a couple of "pillows", and AIrcon that hardly works, and no central heating! In April at 10 degress and no isolation, this was an experience... Dinner was really nice with several dishes, soup, grilled fish, pickles, etc . Breakfast was simple and but very good as to be expected. This place is somewhat off site and you will have to cross back over the Takayama line rail track to find the center of this historical city. Enjoy your historical stay!

I love Takayama and I love staying here. Amazing little Minshuku with lovely hosts that cater for Gluten Free guests! Amazing food and breakfast every morning and within a short walk of both Takayama town and Huda Folk Village. It's perfectly placed and affordable for striking out to explore. From the beautiful temple next door to the folk village and trails in the mountains or just go explore the town.I do wish the Futon mattresses were a little softer but the facilities are amazing. Fantastic baths, air con and a lovely communal area.Highly recommended.
