While the property itself is undeniably beautiful, my experience fell short of expectations, especially considering the high nightly rate. …

My husband and I visited here during the Obon holiday. This is a very quiet and quaint inn. From our room, we could enjoy the soothing sounds of the river flowing into the pond in the garden and the chirping of cicadas while looking out at the Noh theater. We were able to spend a peaceful time in a spacious room separate from the bedroom. The food was very delicious, made with local ingredients and well-seasoned.Nothing to say about the service. In any case, I was able to relax and receive the careful attention I received. Many of the Nakai-san are experienced and I am grateful for their excellent service. This is one of the inns that you should definitely visit at least once.I took my mother there a few years ago, and I would like to visit again with her.

I have used this hotel several times for about 25 years, but with the price hike going up tremendously, I stayed at Hagoromo for 400,000 yen per night. In the room, the door to the open-air bath entrance was poorly constructed and wouldn't close (it would be hell in winter), and the water pressure was so strong that if you didn't turn off the shower, the shower head would come off the hook and pop out, so be careful not to get injured. Other than what I had to do, it was great. The salon that I loved was renovated and the service became more like a family restaurant's drink bar, with the quality of the customers declining, and it became so large that the sound of a cup being placed on the desk was loud, but there was no sound. It was an uncomfortable space that made it difficult to have a conversation. Also, the water I ordered during the meal did not come easily, so the waiter mistook the room-temperature bottled water that was provided in the room and placed it on the tatami mat for a cold bottle."Please do not place it on tatami mats as it will stain."I was warned thatThe dressing room next to the open-air bath attached to the room has solid wood flooring, and a tatami hallway extends from the dressing room. Are you saying don't drop a single drop of water there?``I'm being told from above to tell the guests not to make any of the rooms dirty like that. Or is it your decision? ”When I asked about it, I was told that it was my decision, and the person in charge, replaced by the absentee proprietress, came to apologize.I smoke, but when I went to the smoking area across the road, the person in charge of the shoes used to prepare geta and help me, but this time there was no one there. It's hard to know if it's ok to use, is it for employees? Only bland footwear such as toilet sandals was provided.Everything is no longer worth the priceThings that I would have turned a blind eye to at the previous price are no longer worth it.

Asaba was the first ryokan we’ve stayed at, but I’ll definitely be comparing any future experiences to this. It was perfection from start to finish. We stayed in Tenko, and found the room beautiful and the private outdoor onsen priceless - especially for guests that may be hesitant to visit the public ones! The meals we had were definitely some of the best we had in Japan! Better than many of the major city offerings! The surrounding village was also adorable and fun to explore and very walkable. I’d recommend a 2 night stay.
