It was a somewhat relaxing stay.3 minutes walk to Lake Yamanaka. When we got to Lake Yamanaka, it was clear and we could see Mt. Fuji in the morning. At the inn in the morning, the miso soup was full of the aroma of grilled fish, and it felt like my grandma's house. The futon was comfortable and the bath was also nice. There are carp in the garden. We also had breakfast and dinner. The grilled sweetfish, local pork, vinegared and simmered dishes, and sashimi were all delicious.I researched a lot of accommodations around Lake Yamanaka.I used to find it difficult to plan a family trip because it required a deposit, cancellation fees were required 10 days in advance, and prices were higher on weekends and public holidays, but Saryo Teien does not require deposits. I was shocked that there was no need to cancel, the cancellation fee started 3 days in advance (or so?), and the price remained the same every day.The innkeepers are also friendly, so even if you have small children, you can stay with peace of mind.Excuse me, I took the box of tissues from my room with me. My children had sinus infections and I ran out of tissues.

I have wheat, fish, and dairy allergies...which can make visiting Japan a little difficult. But these guys were amazing! They prepared a truly divine meal for our breakfast that was allergy safe for me. They also went out of the way to keep the large onsen-like bath open for us despite us arriving outside the bath/check-in hours. They also gave us a little free tour of the area and showed us the best places to get pictures of Mt. Fuji across the lake. And they let me feed their koi fish :D! They don't speak a lot of English, but they are so helpful and kind and I highly recommend staying here. It's an older ryokan and so it's not like a typical hotel that has 24/7 staff. So keep in mind that'll mean the front desk/doors lock late at night and the rooms have a little of the tatami smell. So that might deter some people who like staying out really late or dislike tatami. But I still say, with the service provided, esp for the price, it is definitely worth coming here and I can't wait to return!!
