We stayed at the Hanatoki Machiya for 5 days as part of a 3 weeks trip in Japan in the middle of June. It was by far our favorite. Great amenities, great area of Kyoto, and a house with such character. We are dreaming to come back!

My family and I chose a townhouse based on the planned memorial service, location, indoor layout, and measures against the new coronavirus, and stayed there as a family.Responses regarding advance accommodation will be handled via email. The explanation is smooth and good. You need to go to the reception check-in counter in advance.About the accommodationShortly after opening, the design emphasized modern Japanese style. The layout is good, and the dining table is the focal point, making it a comfortable space for families to spend the night without meals.Especially projectors, speakers, floor heating systems, etc.The many amenities that add to your comfort made your stay stress-free.The quality of the amenities is high, and the umbrellas and other items placed on the dirt floor are a sign of consideration. All cooking appliances were available without any inconvenience, and there was no problem in cooking. An electrical outlet was placed under the dining table in consideration of the design, and it was also possible to use it at the table. The hotel provides an overall high-quality space, and its 5-star review rating is unwavering.About tableware (suggestion)Glasses, flat plates, bowls, cutlery, etc. are all included, but there are no small bowls, deep curry plates, etc., which tends to be insufficient considering the number of guests. This also applies to other similar accommodations. Since you can check the indoor floor plan in advance, I felt that being able to check cooking utensils and tableware using a photographic image would lead to differentiation.Regarding bathing and bath towels (suggestion)The shower area and bathtub are spacious, so there are no negative aspects. The atmosphere of the black stone tiles and the hot water supply system were good, so I felt it would be a good idea to have the original bath salts.I also felt that there should be more room in the number of bath towels. There is a washer/dryer, but it is noisy and takes a long time. I would like to suggest that this be made into a system that can be added as a paid option.Thank you for your courteous response, such as arranging rental items, providing explanations at the check-in counter, providing taxi tickets for accommodation plans, and emailing accommodations.

My family of 5, including elementary school children, used it. The spaciousness is also perfect. The location is also great. It's a beautiful room with a large bathtub and a stylish miniature garden, so it's perfect. I was able to enjoy the atmosphere of Kyoto in a comfortable space. We highly recommend this hotel over staying at a tourist hotel at a similar price. I will use it again.

This time we used it with 2 families of 5 people (1 elementary school student). I was very satisfied with the location, size, and cleanliness. The bath in particular was large and very relaxing compared to a hotel.
