Since it was my first time visiting Shima Onsen, I stayed in a room with a semi-open-air bath in the famous Sekizenkan mountain villa. The service, food, and hot springs were perfect, and I enjoyed exploring the facility. The mountain villa where we stayed this time and the main building are both cultural properties and wooden structures, so depending on the location of the room, you can hear footsteps and voices coming from the hallway, so if you are sensitive to noise, you should be aware of this before staying. Or.

This inn is said to be the setting for Spirited Away.It was an old but quaint inn that I really liked.I'm scared, so I was nervous to take a bath alone at night 😅

A long-established inn representing Shima Onsen with an impressive appearance standing on the other side of the red bridge. Founded in the 7th year of Genroku, it is the oldest hot spring inn building in Japan and is designated as an important cultural property by the prefecture. The large public bath ``Genroku no Yu'' has arched windows and five stone bathtubs, giving it a Taisho romantic atmosphere. Morinoyu is the best because you can take a long bath. The downside is that the parking lot is difficult to find.

There are rooms that are relatively inexpensive in the original building, which feature shared toilet and full access to the onsen, including. The bath that is one of the oldest Japan. Those rooms come with pretty inexpensive but nice amenities, towels, yukata, hair dryer, etc. the main building’s reception is pretty quaint. If you don’t care about budget, you can go for one of the Sonsou or Kasoutei buildings. There, you are greeted with with tea and castella before you are taken to your room. You will find much nicer amenities, nicer yukata, towels, pajamas, futon, onsen basket, nicer furnishings, nicer tea cup and generally much nicer experience. We experienced both. Both were very friendly, but worlds apart in experience.Only detracting is how to get here. We drove from Tokyo, and it took just under 3 hours. If we took the train, and then the bus, it would have taken 4 hours. There also is to much to do in the nearby village, but the locals are really friendly.
