If you feel that there are too many tourists in Shirakawa Township, it is a good choice to visit the Gokayama Aigura Gassho-zukuri settlement. The scale is about one-quarter of the size of Shirakawa-go. There are not many tourists, so you can take your time to appreciate the gassho houses. Because the transportation is not as convenient as Shirakawa-go, it is more suitable for self-driving tours. It takes about 40 minutes to arrive from Shirakawa-go. People who travel by self-driving can take some time to visit.Nagato is one of the B&Bs in the settlement. It has a history of 300 years. There are several B&Bs in the settlement. The price is the same as Shirakawa Township. The hostess is amiable and the dinner and breakfast are very delicious. Especially their rice is very delicious because I grew it myself at a B&B. However, if you want to know more about B&B and Gasshoya, you should take the initiative to ask and listen patiently, because the hostess only knows basic English, but she can still communicate well; in addition, the B&B accepts credit card payment.

The landlady’s service is very good and she’s very polite. It’s a traditional Gassho-ya house.

The town of Ainokura is beautiful and the lady who runs Choyomon is a sweetheart. Despite not speaking much English, he tries to help in any way he can.We arrived at a very clean, warm (despite it being 3 degrees outside) and pleasant minshuku. Dinner is served at 6:00 p.m. and was adapted to us as vegans (we called a couple of days before by phone to request it). After dinner the lady prepared the ōfuro so we could take a bath before going to sleep. Breakfast was also adapted and gave us the option of having breakfast at 7:30 or 8:00. All very tasty. We would repeat without hesitation :)

Highly recommend staying here, it was truly a once in a lifetime experience. The village is beautiful and peaceful. The guesthouse itself was full of character, the room was comfortable and spacious, the food was excellent and the host was exceptionally friendly. The communal facilities were excellent and very clean. Definitely worth a visit and very good value for money.

I really recommend staying here for one night. The female host probably doesn’t speak English, but the people are very kind. Because during the Japanese New Year period, some B&Bs may want to take a rest, so it is recommended to book early. I was there about five months ago. I booked a room, and later we chatted and found out that I had just booked it on the last business day of the B&B before the Japanese New Year.Although there is a lot of snow outside, there are enough heating facilities in the B&B. Although the bathroom is a family bathroom, the heating and equipment are sufficient. Two people can wash together at the same time. Shared toilets need to go through the hall. This kind of space arrangement can be avoided Remove odor effects. There is no key to the door, but in fact there are not many rooms. During dinner, everyone will gather in front of the hearth to eat and chat (the female general will also join after preparing the meal), so everyone knows each other and there is no need to worry because the rooms are separated. The room is just a sliding door, so the soundproofing is obvious. Fortunately, we were adults that day, so we maintained the quality of the accommodation, and it was warm and slept well at night. We took the latest bus into the village that day, and got off at Aikangguchi, so we had to walk for 10 minutes to reach the settlement. When we arrived, there were no other tourists. After checking in, the girl would make tea by the irori stove. Eat some snacks. The snow outside is really beautiful. However, according to the female general, December is not the most severe time. The snow will fall even more after that. Don’t worry, the B&B provides us with snow boots (different sizes are not required). Worrying about not finding our shoe size) makes it easier for us to walk around the deserted village, and the B&B is quite close to the village entrance. There were only three of us from Taiwan and a Japanese regular who stayed at the hotel that day. Because we can communicate in Japanese, we talked a lot about Japan, Taiwan and travel. We really spent a peaceful and beautiful night.Due to the epidemic, the Toyama bus is currently closed, which has reduced the traffic between Takayama and the Gassho settlement in the middle of Toyama, so people who want to take a bus to this place must pay attention.Due to the bus schedule the next day, we needed to take the 7:30 bus, and the female general agreed to let us have breakfast early, and also drove us to the bus station, which saved us 10 minutes of walking time. I was really grateful. If I have the chance, I would really like to stay here again and see the scenery of Gassho Village in different seasons.
