Ryokan is truly special. It’s located in a remote area of Nagano that allows for peace and breathtaking views. The rooms were spacious and provided an authentic Japanese experience. The breakfast and dinner were outstanding. A feast for the eyes and soul. You won’t be hungry but if you’re a picky eater this may be a tough place for you.The onsens are small but private and you can use them at your leisure from 6:00-23:00 provided they are not in use. We never had a problem finding an available one during our three day stay.If you want an authentic experience, don’t hesitate-book!

Two thumbs up! We did a roadtrip around JP, this one needs a car to get there. The overall reception is highly personable, warm and at home, all the staff took so much pride doing a fantastic job with the biggest dedication, from the reception gentleman who ran a long way to help carry our (very heavy) luggage on arrival and departure, to the warm smiles and services of old grannies who made us such fantastic ryokan Japanese traditional cuisine… each dish authentic, beautiful and very fresh, delicious (Oishi!). Pls make sure you check you have BF and dinner included as there is no nearby restaurants! Ryokan Warabino has three private beautiful onsen you can have for yourself, very clean and tidy, beautifully renovated. Room is fantastic and well equipped, but you have to shower in the private onsen which is very near to the room. Pretty view of the garden. All our needs are met with great care and service. They deserve the best service award!FYI the ryokan reception is on the left end, as the village public onsen is near to the entrance (right). Very organized and tidy.

The exterior looks like an old folk house, but everything from the lobby to the guest rooms is designed like a high-end inn, and I was able to have a better experience than the early bird weekday price. It can't be helped that the location has little flat land, but the steps inside the building are a concern, so people in wheelchairs or with disabilities should be careful. The Japanese-style room I was shown to was modern, had everything I needed, was well-cleaned, quiet, and comfortable. For dinner, you'll be very satisfied and full with authentic dishes made with simple ingredients from around Takayama Village and soup stock! Craft beer is also good! In the morning, the variety of standard side dishes was similarly delicious, and I ended up eating all of the rice (3 bowls worth). The baths were designed so that the indoor rock bath, the open-air wooden bath, and the outdoor open-air bath were rented by the hour so that you didn't have to share them with other users. It seems that you can also use the drop-in bath attached to the hotel. The hot water felt good on the skin and had a nice hot spring scent. It is also a ryokan that you would want to use when visiting the Joshin region! Please note that the parking space is shared with the attached drop-in bath with a shop, so if it is full, you will have to wait until it becomes available.
