Shortly after it was registered as a World Heritage Site, my family and I stayed there. It looks big from the outside, but it's also very spacious inside, giving it an elegant feel and allowing me to spend a relaxing time. We ate around the hearth, and there were so many dishes that we couldn't finish, such as Gifu's famous salt-grilled sweetfish, Hida beef, Hoba miso, and more. It was the best hospitality.

2407 ・The various side dishes for breakfast and dinner were very delicious. The charcoal-grilled char was light, but the more I chewed it, the more I felt the flavor, and it had a mysterious depth of flavor that left an impression on me. It was fun even though it was a situation that I had only seen in manga, like eating something that was stuck on a stick. lolThe eggplant with sesame was creamy and fragrant, the miso dengaku tofu made me feel nostalgic, and the tempura had the perfect amount of salt and was crispy.Everything was delicious. Many of the dishes were rice-based both in the morning and in the evening, so I ended up eating way too much. was delicious.・The room was large, cool and very comfortable.・Bathrooms are shared and timed.・All the staff were kind and I had no worries.・I'm glad I stayed overnight because I was able to take walks at different times in the evening, night, and morning, and enjoyed the different atmospheres.・At night, I was able to see a starry sky and only a few fireflies, making it a special memory.

Very good stay experienceCheck into Walnut RoomYou can look out at Gassho VillageThe food is mainly mountain vegetablesDinner includes grilled fish and Hida beef teppanyakiThe quantity is not very large but it tastes goodPlease note that you need to specify a bathing time when checking inBecause there is only one bathroomThree groups of guests need to make reservations in advance to allocate bathing time(You cannot make an appointment in the morning as long as there is no one around, you can wash it)If you have strict hygiene requirements, please make an appointment for the first time slot.Otherwise, what you soak will be soaked by someone else.

Do you really want to do something special during your trip through the Japanese Alps/Japan? Then stay in an authentic farmhouse in Shirawa-go. And Magoemon is a great example of that. What a beautiful place. Super beautiful on a river and the owners are really friendly. They speak little English, but with Google Translate everything works out fine. The dinner and breakfast are very nicely set up and well taken care of. It's just a unique experience. We felt like Tom Cruise in The Last Samurai. Take a step back in time and enjoy the natural sounds of the river, frogs and the surroundings. Definitely recommended.

Unforgettable stay in an enchanting setting. The room and common areas are impeccable. Best meal in 20 days in Japan. The hosts are charming and welcoming. We want to come back in winter!

When I heard that I could stay at that gassho-style inn, I stayed there twice, once in the spring and once in the winter. Both seasons are irresistibly beautiful. What is especially noteworthy is that the white rice for dinner and breakfast is so delicious! It was so delicious that I ended up staying there for the second time🤣Is water good? Is there a better way to cook it?It's so delicious that I've never eaten it before! There are a lot of places to see around Shirakawa-go, so I recommend staying overnight rather than just a day trip, as it allows you to relax and relax. There are many tourists during the day, but in the mornings and evenings there are fewer tourists, allowing you to enjoy the quiet sightseeing of Shirakawa-go in comfort.

Location:(+) Around 5-7 min walk from the bus station. Do note that you will need to drag your luggage a fair distance, which can be difficult if it is snowy(+) Near to the main street and attractions(+) Beside a river, which offers lovely views and river sounds, away from the crowds and is quiet!Room (Moegi room):(+) The back door of the room opens up to views of the river. We enjoyed beers whilst looking at the views of the river and snowfall :)(+) Each room has its own “living area”, with a heated tatami mat during winter and hot/cold water provided, a small mini fridge with cans of apple juice, a tea pot with green tea bags, and snacks!(+) Heating in the room is good even in the dead of winter, where temperatures dropped to -7 degrees celcius during our stay(+) The space within each room is fairly generous and sufficient for two.(+) Tatami beds were lush and soft; duvets were thick and comfortable.(+) Yukatas, bath towels, baskets and socks are provided.(+) Common toilets and bathing areas are clean(-) You get ~45min in the evening (allocated time slot) to use the indoor onsen and to shower. But this is understandable as you need to take turns with occupants of other rooms to use the space. You also get time in the morning to use the onsen if you wish.(-) You might see a few bugs scuttling around the corners of the room, but we only had to deal with around 2-3.Food:(+) Dinner was served promptly at 6pm, while breakfast was served at 7:30am.(+) Portions were generous and we were well fed!(+) The food was delicious, well-prepared and served with a lot of warmth and hospitality. We relished every bite :)(-) If you prefer a private dining experience, you may not get that as you will dine with the other lodgers in a communal room.Reservation Experience:(-) The English reservation site was more difficult to navigate and I was unable to retrieve the “pin” to access my account when I wanted to make changes. You will receive an email once the reservation has been made, and this is sufficient to confirm your booking. We got our first hotel to call Magoemon to confirm the booking again upon our arrival in Japan, and this gave us some reassurance!Service:(+) This is truly where this ryokan experience shines. Our host (ひさいさん) and her husband were incredibly warm and did their best to communicate with us in English throughout the stay(+) You are allowed to drop off luggage if you arrive early. The hosts kindly carried our heavy bags into the room and wiped snow off our bags whilst we were out exploring Shirakawago!(+)ひさいさん went above and beyond to help us to get to our bus in time when the snow was heavy, and we deeply appreciated her assistance and concern ♥️Overall:- A lovely stay with welcoming and warm hosts, a comfortable and clean room, and great food. Would 100% recommend despite the difficulties with making reservations in English :)

I will also write a review and report that I was able to return home safely.A couple stayed here for 1 night and 2 days on a snowy day.I went from Nagoya to Shirakawa-go to relax in a space where I wasn't pressed for time, and the result was great. It is possible to make reservations for 3 groups per day, but this time there was no one staying other than us, so it was reserved exclusively.I had heard that baths, toilets, washrooms, and meals would be shared, so I was wondering what it would be like, but since it was private, I was able to relax. You can see from the photos that the atmosphere of the inn and the food is good, but as we love vegetables, we really liked the food.Everything was delicious and there was a wide variety of items, mainly vegetables, so I was full both morning and night lol.If you eat a certain amount while walking or at cafes, it may be a little tough to eat less. The room was a "Moegi" room with a view of the river, but it felt like I was back at my grandma's house. It's a quiet and relaxing space where you can easily forget the time and doze off.I couldn't imagine how cold it would be on a snowy night in Shirakawago, but the futon was very warm and I slept well in my yukata. It was warm not only in my room but also in all the rooms I went in and out of because the heating was working well.It snowed a lot during the night, so I borrowed rain boots and went for a walk in the still darkness. The scenery was different from the one seen during the day and it was very nice. The couple were very kind people. Each piece is carefully crafted and exudes kindness. The bus on my way back to Nagoya was canceled due to snow, but I was able to find my way home safely thanks to your help. There was a possibility that I would not be able to return home, so thank you very much for checking with me.It was a space I would like to visit again. It might be a lot of fun if you could go with 3 couples or couples!I'm really thankful to you.I would like to use it again when I go to Shirakawa-go.
