My wife and I had an incredible experience at Momijya. The service from the staff is honestly the best I have ever experienced from a place of lodging. The private Onsen is a must do. Will definitely be coming back here if I visit Kyoto again.

Outstanding experience. A very convenient bus ride from Kyoto station takes about three-quarters of an hour to this wonderful facility surrounded by greenery.Dinner, included in our stay, was served to us at 6 p.m. and was in the form of a tasting of typical Japanese dishes (not the usual sushi!):definitely an experience to be undertaken with an open mind to different and particular flavors that, personally, I greatly enjoyed. There are different types of onsen you can access: we chose the private outdoor pool overlooking the forest. Simply wonderful.Really helpful staff: we were given yukatas to wear and our room was set up for the night with futons (surprisingly very comfortable).Breakfast served at 8 a.m.; again, these were typical dishes, often savory or in broth. There are vending machines for drinks and a smoking area nearby.

It was all really good, but the typical Japanese guy with buck teeth and horn-rimmed glasses who guided us there didn't speak Japanese, so he said, "If the cute girls come in by mistake while they're changing, they'll be lucky." He made all kinds of sexual harassment remarks, and eventually he pretended to accidentally enter the women's bathhouse that Ji had personally prepared for him to bathe in. He went all the way inside and made eye contact with the women, and if possible, don't talk to that creepy-looking male employee. And he kept the building door locked at night. You can't go outside... there are only a few vending machines around anyway... I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who can't stay inside quietly.

It is a 20 min taxi drive out of kyoto which costs around 5,000 yen.The properly is a very old building. However, because it is a traditional ryokan, it fits that image and hence it's fine.Do include the full board option where they take you to a riverside location 5 min away on a shuttle bus. That location is spectacular for a kaseki meal. They have geishas do a short performance there too by the riverside. The meal itself is nothing home to write about but the experience is great.I would only recommend a maximum 1 night stay. Also, Use the private bath option for 4,000 yen.

Our stay at Momijiya Honkan Takao Sansou Ryokan at the start of our Japan trip was nothing short of exceptional. Nestled in a serene, remote location, this ryokan provided the perfect retreat for relaxation and rejuvenation. The peaceful ambiance and the warm, sincere hospitality of the staff made us feel truly welcome. The facilities were impeccably maintained, and the authentic Japanese meals were a culinary delight. Despite its remote location, the ryokan is easily accessible via public bus and shuttle bus services. After two nights here, we felt completely refreshed and ready to continue our journey. Highly recommend for anyone seeking a tranquil and authentic Japanese experience.
