It's a hot spring right below the Tengendai ski resort that I often visited about 50 years ago, and I could see the ropeway going by.It was a quiet and isolated inn in the mountains in a beech forest.[Residence] ○ Good view of distant mountainsThe room was a 6 tatami Japanese style room with separate toilet and washroom.I woke up to the sound of a nearby stream in a quiet room with a view of Mt. Kabutoyama in the distance.[Hot water] ◎ Spectacular bath with a nice viewThe temperature of the water in the indoor bath was very high and there was no view from the window, so I pulled up early. The open-air bath has a refreshing feel as you listen to the sound of the clear stream. Also, the open-air bath carved out of a tree trunk is very rare.[Food] ◎ Rich mountain and river delicaciesMeals were served in the room and could be thoroughly enjoyed.I tried the Yonezawa beef tataki with Yakiniku, and it was really delicious.Locally produced ingredients such as salt-grilled char, mountain udon, and bracken were very fresh.I enjoyed the simple taste of Yamagata Prefecture's specialty ``Tama Konnyaku.''Please note that payment cannot be made by credit card and only cash is accepted.

Since the car is low, I parked it at the Tengendai Ropeway parking lot and walked for about 30 minutes. It was tough even for a 33-year-old man because he had to climb a super steep hill.I was given a ride on the way back. Please note that low-height cars cannot reach the inn.It was great to have so many open air spaces! The outdoor view of the waterfall was the most relaxing. Also, the quality of the spring water in the private bath is the best!At night, the sky is full of stars. The signal is very weak. That's the great thing about secret hot springs! This is a hidden hot spring inn. There are some inconveniences, but only those who understand this should stay here. Can stay for 1 person.I was the only young person (lol)

From the Tengendai Ropeway parking lot, drive about 1km along a narrow unpaved mountain road.“The inn of the association that protects Japan’s secret hot springs” Azumaya Ryokanthere is.Personally, I liked the atmosphere and the open hot spring!I was able to see the sunset and a beautiful starry sky from my room. The five open-air baths with spectacular views are all good,The indoor bath is also nice, although it's a little hot.

I traveled with a 7-person delegation from Huntington Beach, California. We spent one night and I found everything wonderful. I felt the property and baths to be what I was expecting for such an old establishment. Its quirks were part of the property's wonder. Thank you

This inn is a member of the Hidden Hot Springs Mamoru Association, located just up the winding mountain path exclusive to the inn from Shirabu Onsen.Well, the road to the inn is simply paved and terrible. I have a 4WD, but it's not an SUV, so I hit the bottom several times. But there were some overnight guests so it was okay (lol)There are 5 open-air baths, an indoor bath, and a private indoor bath, and the open-air baths are generally mixed bathing, so it may be difficult for women to enter. If you stay there, there is a women-only time at night, but you won't be able to see the view because it's night time.Meals were shared in the room for breakfast and dinner. Groups seem to have their meals in a separate room.Dinner is basically salt-grilled river fish, wild vegetables, and Yamagata sweet potato stew, with a special order of Yamagata beef steak. The inn's website says that the Yonezawa beef is A5 rank, but no matter how you estimate it, it's not that high.It must be delicious because it's served at an inn deep in the mountains.Well, even if it really is A5, there are various parts.ps. Now it seems that it is Yonezawa beef lean thigh meat. The baths are great, including the open-air bath. You will be warmed by the sulfur-containing and calcium sulfate springs. I heard later that the private Hiba indoor bath is the best.I didn't get in (tears)Drop-in hot springs have been discontinued since the coronavirus pandemic and will probably not be revived.I'm sorry. There are some reviews saying that the accommodation is not very responsive, but all Yamagata ryokans are like that. Even this is better than it was 20 years ago.If you're looking for good service, you'll have to stay at Tendo-so or Meigetsu-so.ps. However, the Q&A on the inn's website is ironic and interesting. I don't hate it.

An unexplored inn where you should try your hand at off-road vehicle riding 🏍️I went halfway up the mountain on VFR, but gave up. The slope is too steep to climb on the SS type because it would be dangerous. Even if you can climb up, you will have an accident on the way down. In fact, there are many accidents. Now, about the accommodation...The customer service was polite and nothing like the previous reviews. The people there were all very kind and it helped me a lot.The quality of hot springs differs slightly depending on the location. For me, the private nigoriyu was the best.It was a shame that the electric wires were visible, which spoiled the sense of secluded area. Still, I thoroughly enjoyed it. We recommend that you come with two or more people, as you will not be satisfied if you go alone.About the roomThis is a rice cracker futon. Unfortunately, the window in my room was broken, so I was worried about winter. Even in May, we recommend wearing a futobu at night. It's cold, isn't it?mealEven with this, the steak was so big...There was no need for an upgrade. My stomach is full. It's very cheap for those who want to eat Yonezawa beef in bulk.starry sky photographySince the light is close, you can barely do it if you go down the hill a little, but I can't really recommend it.Overall, ★4
