My friend and I had an amazing stay at the end of our first day of Kumano Kodo. It’s an immaculately kept beautiful log wood house with a cedar wood hot bath overlooking (via the window) the mountain ranges. Be ready to take in the breathtaking view of floating white clouds draping dark mountains at dusk while you are relaxing in the tub. The aromatic scent of cedar will make you feel like you’re in the clouds yourself. The food was an incredible feast and the tatami room and futons are very comfortable. Our host was simply lovely even though he spoke only a few words of English. He communicated well with Google translate and gestures and we shared many laughs using our mixed methods of communication. We absolutely adored this house and its surroundings, with lots of space to relax. The location couldn’t be better because it’s right along the Kumano Kodo route. Highly recommend staying at this 2-year old yado!

We were very well received by the host couple, who despite the language barrier, did everything they could to accommodate us. Google translate on hand at all times, it helped at this point. As soon as we arrived, we were directed to take a traditional bath which was very relaxing and then we started wearing kimonos that they made available. Both dinner and breakfast were very tasty! We also requested a snack for the trail and it was very special.Very well maintained and clean environment. We felt very welcomed!

we stayed in hoshizora-no-yado on our first night of the kumano kodo trail. the owner, ichiro-san, was extremely hospitable, and despite the lack of english, we managed to get most communication done with google translate. the house is very unique and has beautiful wooden fixtures, all made by ichiro-san himself. the japanese style rooms were comfortable and very clean and neat. the supper was exquisite, better than restaurant food. we each got a bento box with sashimi, fried fish, fried chicken, tempura prawns and tempura vegetables, plus a little pot with boiling misu soup full of vegetables, tofu and other surprises. i wish we could speak japanese, i would have loved to get to know ichiro-san and his history. if you want a truly japanese experience, hishizora-no-yado is perfect!

Wonderful stay on our first night of the Kumano Kodo. The food was incredible, room very comfortable (we stayed downstairs and had aircon), and host was lovely. Not much English spoken but he is all over Google translate, so no issues. Very warm and homely house too, lots of space to relax. Oh and the bath is wonderful - the smell of cedar is dreamy. Highly recommend staying here.

We loved staying here as our first night on the Kumano walk. Such a character filled house made of woods and care, combined with an incredible bathing view over the mountains, topped off with a loving host.

After the first leg of the Kumano Kodo, starting from Takoijiri-oji (4km) we overnighted at this wonderful place. The owner is very polite and caring. The place is very cosy and the meal delicious. The japanese bath from cipresse wood is a delight!

We LOVED staying with Ichiro, the host!!! He was so kind and gracious in our stay. The food was PHENOMENAL!!!! Dinner was an amazing Japanese feast and I wish I could have fit more in my stomach. Fish, curry, kurrage, you name it! Breakfast was just what we needed to hit the road. And the rice ball bento Ichiro packed for us was PERFECT for the day. We also had a blast getting to know Ichiro. Even with a language barrier, we bonded a bit over his history with baseball. かんぺきと楽しかったです!ありがとうござあいます。

I stayed at Hoshizora-no-Yado Takahara for our first night on the Kumano Kodo with my friend, and it was fantastic. Ichiro-san, the host, was super welcoming and made us feel right at home. After the first day of hiking, the bath in the hinoki wood tub with a mountain view was just we needed.Dinner was a delicious and the room was cozy and warm, perfect for a good night's sleep. The place was incredibly clean, probably the cleanest home I've ever seen.A fun touch was having the weather channel on TV during breakfast – we loved eating while listening to the catchy tunes.
