We enjoyed our stay at Anchan very much! The bento box is super delicious. I love the plum. It is the best! Myachan ( the cat) showed us great hospitality! We had nice conversation with Anchan. He’s so nice! We also used his luggage shuttle service. It was excellent! The guest house is located right next to the Nakahechi trail start point. Super convenient to start your hike! Also the shop is full of interesting things to browse. Thank you Anchan and Myachan for giving us a great time.

Our accomodation at Takahara was cancelled and we were moved to Kodo-no-Mori. It actually worked out really well if you are coming down from Osaka in the morning and timed right you will arrive around 1.30 2ish at the start of the trail. We left our packs and did the first section to Takahara comfortably and hiked down the hill and bussed back with time to spare for dinner. The next day An chan was kind enough to give us a ride up to Takahara!! The bento dinner, breakfast and lunch I had no issues with, they were filling and comforting. It is simple lodging as described and our room was comfortable and clean. If you can’t get accomodation further along the trail on the first day I recommend staying here.

They helped ship one of our bags to chikatsuyu, which made the hike much more enjoyable. Would use again!

Way too expensive for what you get. Don't get me wrong; the location is nice and the food is okay. But there is really nothing special about this accomodation. And paying 90 euros per person is way too much and not worth it. If you want to hike Kumano Kodo, try to sleep in Tanabe and take the first bus or walk to Takahara on the 1st day. There are more options there.

Great place to stay the night before the Kumano Kodo Nakahechi route - the owner has souvenirs and food for purchase. The provided meals were very tasty! There is a cat on the property that’s famously friendly!

Indeed helpful in delivering the luggage to our other accommodation destination. They accept the delivering service in the same day, but depends on their capability, if you need this service in the busy season, recommend you to book in advance.

Great location to start the Kumano Kodo hike and warm hospitality. There is only one bathroom, toilet and wash basin so may be busy during peak hours. Guest rooms are on second floor and stairway is steep. I found a big centipede in my tatami room, maybe because they are so close to the forest. Meals are good and wholesome.

Really great location right at the start of the Kumano Kodō trail in Takijiri. Hosts are lovely and very accommodating. Stayed one night and opted for dinner, breakfast and a little bento box for our hike. Room is small but comfy and great place to stop before you start the trail.
