The Columbia lodge next door, which our group was spread between, was in a disappointing condition with holes in the paper in the windows, terrible smell and overall rundown condition. More hostel than luxury unfortunately, and it was very expensive for the week. Facilities were lacking including bathrooms for the number of rooms. We were disappointed with the service between Myoko Vista lodge and Columbia. The breakfasts were pretty basic for the standard of lodge (advertised as buffet) with not much choice, especially if you’re gluten or lactose free. They ran out of coffee pods on day 2, as they said the order hadn’t arrived, and we were told to use coffee bags. Which we did for the rest of the stay. Woeful. Requests for most things were met with eye rolls. We felt very much like interlopers in the staff’s ski holiday. No tea and coffee in rooms but a kettle. No extras at all. No room servicing during the week. Probably for us it was the unwelcoming atmosphere, with no professional hospitality staff leading from the front, to pull it all together. One day there were pancakes and when asked about the gluten free option, we were told there wasn’t one. We asked for perhaps an omelette then, and once again met with an eye roll and no answer but 20 minutes later 2 rubbery fried eggs were dumped in front of the guest. Very odd. Main lodge is great in terms of room standard. Could be great with more attention to service. No information provided about the town or ski conditions each day etc. When the lifts went down on our slopes, no offers to transport to the base of the other lifts or solutions - we muddled around for an hour trying to work out what was happening. The local buses are quite a walk with skis. There needs to be a shuttle bus up and down to town more regularly during the day (advertised). Hard to get up and down if you’re not skiing. Lifts were forthcoming, if we asked, but felt begrudging. Often staff just drove past us without offering a lift! To advertise as a boutique lodge, of any kind these days, the emphasis should be on the guest’s experience at every turn. There were the odd glimmers of service (Mike thank you for the firework help and birthday dinner) but not consistent. Not enough to just provide a room and basics. The value wasn’t there, and better deals and service elsewhere unfortunately.

Columbia house, part of Myoko Vista - such a great spot with a traditional feel and yet…the lacklustre briefing was devoid of useful information. Direct questions such as, “what time are the onsens open till?” were met with tangential responses without conclusion. We discovered we had our own onsen, no information provided. Heaters, no details on how to operate. Dishwasher, no dishwasher powder or tablets until asked. Coffee pods ran out after the first day. We were reluctantly informed that they could wash clothes but, yeah, we don’t have a dryer, so yeah. Oh and I haven’t mentioned the smell yet…a nasty odour from the toilets contrasted severely with the clear mountain air. What a difference a little service and some maintenance could make to the first impression and overall enjoyment of the stay.Transport was provided to and from dinner which was great as it’s a steep walk in the snow.

This was our second stayed at Myoko Vista for the snow and again it was awesome. Managers Deanne and Mark, along with their team, were super friendly, knowledgeable and exceptionally helpful when it came to arranging activities off the snow. Can’t thank them enough. Rooms are spacious, bright, clean and really warm. Western beds comfy with quality linen. We preferred the standard western room to the penthouse as it has a shower (penthouse only has a bath and we never really used the kitchen as always ate out). It’s a 10min walk into town for lunch if you can’t ski there, however they provided transfers in and out for dinner which was great. We’ll be back again!

No frills stay - I stayed at Myoko Vista from 27 Dec - 1 Jan 2024. I was a bit disappointed with my stay, particularly the level of service provided. There is no room cleaning service and they did not throw out the trash on a daily basis. We had to ask them to do so and otherwise, the trash would not be cleared if we did not ask. The breakfast was also poor. There were also no amenities like toothbrushes, room slippers or hand soap, which you normally expect in any place you stay in Japan. Lastly, they didn't salt the ground in their parking and there were numerous times that my friends and I have fully slipped on the ground and fallen.

My partner and I just had a lovely stay at Myoko Vista. The lodge is hosted by Warwick and Louise, an Australian couple. They were great to deal with and very accommodating. The lodge is thoughtfully furnished and in a good position. …
