I've stopped here several times, and it's a guesthouse that truly cares about its customers. The food is well thought out and uses good ingredients. …

Family run and homey older basic inn with a handful of rooms in a quiet residential neighborhood near the beautiful Okadera temple. Delicious breakfast and dinner. Fast WiFi. Large rooms with comfy futons and shared bathroom. Yukatas were provided. The older proprietor was very kind and helpful, he only spoke Japanese but he used a translator gadget to help get things across. Only dislike is that the water heater exhaust odor sometimes drifted into our room from outside - but guests are only allowed to use the shower or bath from 5pm-10pm, so it wasn’t too often.

We had a great time listening to stories from people who grew up in Asuka. It is said that when Asuka children were young, they would usually go inside the stone chamber of Maruyama Kofun and play.

The guesthouse was clean and as expected so that would be 4 stars...but what made this place deserve that extra star was 1. the food (everything genuinely tasted good) and 2. the hosts (you can tell that the old couple who run the guesthouse were very sweet and lovely people - they aren't imposing and stay out of your way but at some point we ended up having a good chat despite our far from fluent Japanese).

I had no idea that I would be staying in a village called Asuka. Moreover, this is my first time staying at a private lodging facility. Unlike a guest house, the atmosphere is homely and the food is plated in a homely manner❗The host talked to me a lot, which helped me feel less lonely when I was traveling alone.
