We had a truly harrowing experience with this accommodation that I will try and put in words. We (2 adults) have booked and paid a triple room, just to be informed on arrival (by apparently the owner) that our baby daughter is ‘not allowed in as potentially disturbing other guests’.It was indeed written in the guidelines that children are only allowed at the age of 10 (why..?) and yes, I have missed that point. However, in that given situation, the reaction of the host was cancelling our reservation leaving us homeless (!) given that zero rooms in Nara or other cities around were available that night. He was aware / made aware of that by ourselves and even the booking.com hotline - and yet asked us to leave and spend the night on the street, with our baby. With a, I repeat, booked and paid for triple room. Any intervention by the booking.com hotline was fruitless, and so was offering to pay an additional fee.The rooms are certainly nicely furnished - but this complete lack of basic human decency, is something I have never even remotely experienced in Japan (or elsewhere for that matter). Big, big thanks for the staff at the Nara train station (!) that selflessly supported us in that situation that night. Not wishing anything bad at that point - but for the readers, decide for yourselves if you would like to do business with that person.

My group and I had a fantastic stay at Slow House! The location is relatively convenient, even if it's a bit oddly hidden in a back street - the advantage of that is that it's blissfully quiet at night even though it's in the middle of the restaurant/shopping area. The hotel is spotlessly clean, and the futons and other furniture are all extremely comfortable. The receptionist gave us extra pillows immediately when I mentioned a knee injury. The amenities are excellent - it was great having a bathroom with good shampoo in it, and having the little kitchen there for tea or coffee in the morning. The greatest asset of this hotel, however, is unquestionably the staff. Both staff members we met were courteous, helpful and knowledgeable, able to handle our unexpectedly complex questions and needs. We felt incredibly safe and cared for here, and were always able to contact the staff if we needed.

The place was located in a complicated back alley, so it was a little difficult to find. There is no parking lot, so I used a nearby parking lot. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. The room was for a family of four, so there were two single beds and a bunk bed for the children, which the children were very happy with. However, since the walls are thin, some people may be concerned about the noise, so I asked the children to refrain from playing around and have them spend their time quietly.Unfortunately, since the guesthouse is frequented by foreigners, I came home after drinking around 3am and was woken up by loud talking, so I couldn't get back to sleep for a while.Overall, I think it's worth the price and recommended for those who are cost-conscious.

Accommodation in a great location. Please note that check-in is until 8pm.The room (bunk bed, shower, toilet) that could accommodate up to two people had at least four electrical outlets. It's nice to have a hair dryer and bath towels (don't forget to bring your own pajamas), and you can also get hot water, tea, and coffee from the communal kitchen. There was also a microwave. The bedding was a little thin and cold, but you can freely adjust the heating temperature so it's not a problem. Be careful when adjusting humidity. There is no humidifier or air purifier.

We really loved our stay at Slow House Nara. We stayed here for 6 days: first 4 days in a western style room and the last 2 in a tatami room. Both rooms were great and just amazing value. Both sleeping in a bed or futon was super comfortable. Both bathrooms were great, spotless clean and had no issues. The staff was incredibly friendly, helpful and kind.It is perfectly located within walking distance of all sightseeings, station, shops and restaurants but tucked away enough to enjoy a quiet and restful night.
