We had a wonderful time at Misenkan. The hosting family were so kind and generous, teaching us about the local culture and environment, and taking us to the Benzaiten-sha Shrine. Our room was lovely, lined with cedar wood it smelled delightful, and we were able to hear the stream outside from our room. The bath was also very special, with an outdoor tub to relax amongst the trees and listen to the water flowing. The food was also incredible, everything was super fresh and showcased local produce and ingredients. The family were also able to cater for our vegetarian request.I highly recommend Misenkan, and would love to visit again!

We had an absolutely wonderful stay here! The owners are the most gracious and kind people. They went above and beyond to make our stay special. The owner drove us to the local hot springs which was great. The accommodations were perfect and really provided a full authentic Japanese experience with tatami dining area. The nature surrounding the inn was beautiful. Highly recommend!

We stayed for two nights at Misenkan and loved it. This is a family run traditional Japanese inn and is accessible by public transit. The area is stunning and has beautiful hikes you can walk out the door to. The owners are incredibly kind and went above and beyond to make our stay wonderful (even giving us a tour of a local shrine after we checked out and before our bus arrived). The food is meaningful to the area and was delicious. This was one of our best experiences in Japan and I highly recommend making the trip to stay here.

An amazing experience all round. The ryokan itself is very cosy. The futons were super comfortable to sleep in. The open bath is on the side of the river and it was very relaxing. Both dinner and breakfast was delicious and made from local ingredients. We even had the privilege of a guided tour of the local shrine by the ryokan owner. All the staff were hospitable and clearly took great pride in both the ryokan and the village. Well worth the time to visit here.

I went to Tenkawa during the peak of the autumn season and was lucky to be able to book a room at this lovely family owned Ryokan. The location is great, just a few meters away from the bus stop, right next to the river, and within walking distance to the areas main attraction (Mitarai Valley) The building is very well maintained, the room where I stayed was spacious, it was clean and comfortable. I particularly enjoyed the view from the window and the Kotatsu. The food was delicious, showcasing the local ingredients and the purity of the water. And more importantly, the owners were so nice, I felt welcome from the minute I stepped in. I was given great recommendations that made the whole difference for my trip. I can’t wait to go back.

What an unforgettable experience! If you are thinking whether it’s worth spending several hours getting here, think no more - this place is a gem. It could easily become the highlight of your trip to Japan if your are visiting or your go-to sanctuary if you live here.I was really excited to find a ryokan that caters to vegetarians, and the food alone was worth the trip from Tokyo. But it’s not just the food: the owners’ effusive hospitality, the scenic landscape, the water, the hiking, and the evening hot tub soak all made me think of coming back the moment I left.

Totally exceeded expectations. Friendliest hosts, well maintained, and superb food. Incredible value for money considering the establishment is in the Michelin guide. Traditional breakfast and dinner included, which was superb. …

Our stay was very pleasant. The innkeeper and his family are very hospitable. He recommended us sights around the village. There's some nice nature, water falls and quiet temples. The food was delicious and different from what we had in the big cities. And on top off all that is not too expensive. ++ Would stay again
