The staff were so friendly and took such great care of us during our stay.We don't speak Japanese so we used Google translate for most of our interactions. Had no issues with communication between us and the staff.Food was very yummy and definitely helped immerse us in the culture. The view from the room/onsen was absolutely stunning.10/10 would come here again ☺️

九州一!excellent location, great interior decorations in Japanese style, with attentions in lot of details. The dinner is superb and you get to see the Kouyo light-up and private tea house. Second to none in Kyushu. Definitely should revisit again.

If there is a six-star in Google, we shall definitely give Chikurintei a six-star 😄The excellent service, delicious food and amazing environment has completed a perfect holiday. The room is spacious and in spotless condition, for the first time we are comfortable to use the towel and tooth brush of the hotel. The lady who served our dinner is not good in English but she translated everything in the menu in English every dinner, how thoughtful was that!

As a Japanese, I still rate this onsen very high among the others. Each room has a different character, we stayed for two nights changing rooms and equally enjoyed(because 2nd night was not available for the 1st). …

We stayed in Takasago room. This room has a garden and an outdoor (onsen) pool (as in every room in this ryokan). The service and food are impeccable. In addition, this ryokan has a private access to the Mifuneyama Garden, another plus. …

The rooms and private bath were pretty and comfortable. The service is ok. But if you consider the price you paid, it is not worthy. The meals are so-so. The public bath is so-so. There is no hot spring in the indoor bath in room. …

This onsen has been visited by various members of the Japanese Royal Family. Perhaps because of that the style of the ryokan is extremely traditional. That applies to the room, the food and the service. …

A one-in-a-lifetime ryokan experience. One rarely splurges to this extent, but this is the place to do it. You are daimyo for a day (or two). Exquisite in every way. The rooms and the amenities are luxuries, the views of the nearby mountain, from your private outdoor soaking tub, are breathtaking, the food is wild and the karatsu-yaki it is served on is near museum-quality (urushi too). Cocktails in the Edo period tearoom overlooking the lake -- to die for. In the evening, you have the adjacent as your own private garden (shared with the twenty or so other guests).

Stayed one night in Takasago. The room was beautiful and full of traditional Japanese designs down to the very little details. The hotel only had a few rooms so it was very private and intimate. There is a private entrance to Mifuneyama for guests so you dont have to walk all the way around.Chayabar is also within min of walking through the gardens. We particularly loved the baths. The outdoor bath had a giant black rock slab where you can lie there and really just enjoy the nature without it being way too hot. Was able to read on the rock for over an hour while listening to the brids. The service as always was impeccable. They were patient and full of smiles when explaining to us. For dinner they even typed up the menu in english for us so we know what we were eating. You can also go and enjoy TEAMLABS exhibits and suana in Ruken hotel next door. But since we stay there ahead of time for a few days, we really just wanted to enjoy Onyado.Recommend the splurge for a good time!
