Hijiori Onsen is a hot spring with a long history of 1200 years. Among them, Tsutaya has an annex that looks from the present day to the future, and a main building that gives you a sense of relief as if you have traveled back in time. The annex has an elevator and there are no steps, making it exactly the style of a modern spa. The main building has a mixed bath and has the atmosphere of an old spa.You can enjoy both at one ryokan. To be honest, I'm not completely satisfied with the food. Homely, to put it in a nice way! To put it in a bad way, it's simple and lacks a sense of the season.Originally, Hijiori Onsen was a spa.Whether you want to enjoy the hot springs, get in touch with nature, or feel the history, you can do it all at Tsutaya.

●Transportation:Bus from Shinkansen Shinjo Station. Since the number of buses is small and the buses are small, it is better to check the time in advance (posted on the Hijiori Onsen official website, etc., as it varies depending on the season) and wait at the bus stop a little before the scheduled time. . The bus heading from Hijiori Onsen to Shinjo Station on the last day of the three-day weekend around the check-out time was already 20 minutes before departure with a long line at the bus stop. It was full. It is less than a minute's walk from Terminals 1 and 2 to the first bus, Hijiori Onsen, so we recommend waiting at the Hijiori Onsen bus stop. (If you can't get on, it's unclear whether a second car will come.)●Facility equipment/bath:There are facilities for spa visitors and a hotel part, which are connected on the second floor. The entrance directly in front of the second bus stop will be the entrance for spa visitors. There is a lobby for hotel guests with an entrance on the river side. From the second bus stop, you can get to the river side from a narrow road right next to it. (It's so thin that you won't notice it at first glance.)Lobby and some vending machines. Alcohol is beer and ice cream. Prices are at convenience store level. Rice is sold in the lobby, but there is no product store at the inn. There is a souvenir shop like a convenience store just a short walk from the entrance for hot spring bathers. Alcohol, drinks, food, etc. are sold there. There are two baths. There are no lockers with keys either. Shampoo and body soap are provided. The water is a slightly ocher color and is so muddy that you can see your toes while sitting. Only slightly salty. Odorless. The hot spring source is hot, and the water is diluted (10-20%) with mountain water to cool it down. Yunohana is only slightly floating on the surface. I've been in there a few times, but it's usually a moderate to slightly warm temperature. It can be used all day except during morning cleaning hours.(1) Mixed bathing. It is located on the side of the facility for spa guests. The changing rooms are separate for men and women. Two rock baths. I went in the evening or early in the morning, but there was no one there and I was able to enjoy the experience in peace. No shower facilities.(2) Separate indoor baths for men and women. There are some shower facilities. There are tissues and hair dryers in the changing room. (No cotton swabs or lotion provided.) No gender swapping. (Probably the same type.)●Room:On the tour (local hot springs) I chose on JR East Ekinet, I stayed in a Japanese-style room with a bath and toilet in the hotel section. A Japanese-style room that looks like a typical hot spring inn + two low chairs. Bath towels, towels, yukatas, and toothbrushes are provided.●Meals:The tour I chose from JR East Ekinet (local hot springs) included evening and morning tours. You can choose between 18:00 and 18:30 in the evening, or 8:00 and 7:30 in the morning. Mainly mushrooms and other mountain products, but also specialties such as Yamagata beef and Yamagata's specialty imoni. A set of hot spring inn courses for the elderly. All the flavors are easy to eat and the portions are modest. For sake, if you're into Japanese sake, we recommend the local sake comparison set for 90ml of 3 types for 1,500 yen.

The whole hot spring town was a very nice place. This inn is by no means luxurious and the facilities are old. There are almost no amenities, no Wi-Fi, and the windows in the room are frosted glass so you can't see outside. However, everyone is very kind, from the staff, to the people at the shops in the hot spring town, to the ladies at the morning market, and it's a place that makes you feel comfortable despite the slight inconvenience.Above all, the hot springs at the ryokan are very nice. There is also mixed bathing water, but it would be nice if you could take a bath with your family. It feels like it's deeply effective. The meals are filled with a variety of local wild vegetables. It's not luxurious, but everything is delicious! .Especially the rice is great. It is not suitable for those who seek cleanliness and luxury, but I think it is the best for those who like hot springs.

Not only is the water hot, but each and every dish is delicious, and the rice tastes even better. It is also a very comfortable accommodation with the good people. It's old, so it's pretty good, but it's well kept. The library on the first floor, the counter bar, and the hearth area have a very nice atmosphere.

Although it is a few years old, I got the impression that it was well maintained. The rooms we stayed in this time had their own bath and toilet, and were separate. Everything was provided, including yukatas, towels, toothbrushes, and a large TV. Regarding the location, since the hot spring town of Hijiori itself is small, I felt that there was no difference in convenience no matter which inn you stayed at.

The hotel entrance faces the Dozan River, and the entrance to the hot springs building faces the main street of the hot spring town. There are bathrooms on both sides, with the hotel side having separate baths for men and women, and the bathhouse having mixed baths.During Hijiori Onsen's summer event ``Hijiori no Light'', many lanterns will be displayed on the first floor of the hot springs building. For the past few years, I have been looking forward to seeing the lanterns here while enjoying the lanterns in the hot spring town.
