My wife and niece took care of me.We stayed at a souvenir shop, restaurant, and inn while also sightseeing in Yamadera. On the day we arrived by car, the landlady kindly, politely, and friendly guided us to the parking lot and gave us detailed instructions on how to get to Yamadera.I returned to the hotel from Yamadera covered in sweat, and before checking in, I ate shiso-flavored shaved ice🍧 at the restaurant on the first floor, and it was delicious. At that time, another female employee told me it must have been hot and turned on a fan at full blast, which made me happy.Although the rooms were old, they were clean. The room was about 12 tatami mats in size and was spacious and comfortable. The stairs were steep. There is only one bath, and it feels like you can rent it out, so if it's empty, you can use it. The bathtub is clean because the hot water is constantly flowing from the faucet little by little (this makes me happy 😄)I forgot about the food, but both the quantity and quality were good.As for customer service, the landlady, husband, and female employees were all very friendly and easy to talk to, which made me feel happy.I think the cost was less than 30,000 yen for 3 people, 2 days and 1 night. It's more than enough 😊It's strange that the reviews are below 4. Is it as a restaurant? No, it seems like the number of accommodation sites was less than 4.I think it's different for each person, but I think it's a wonderful inn filled with good old-fashioned humanity 😊The memory of the three of us climbing Yamadera in the intense heat, drenched in sweat, will be an unforgettable memory. Also, if you have a chance to visit Yamadera, I would appreciate it if you could visit 🙇 It looks like the season of autumn leaves 🍁 would be nice.Thank you to all the employees at Takasagoya Main Building.

I ate tempura soba.It looked like it was handmade, but it had a disappointing taste.I feel like dried noodles would be better in this case.

The parking lot is located in front of Yamadera from the direction of downtown Yamagata. The fee is 500 yen, but if you buy souvenirs of 1,500 yen or more, you will receive 500 yen back. There are several 300 yen parking spots further back near the main hall and Sanmon gate, so if you don't feel like buying a souvenir for 1,500 yen, park further back.

In all my travels over 20 years this is tied for the best place i have ever stayed. It is a taste of perfect Japanese hospitality, with tradition, and in a serene mountain town. It is remote and quiet (which i love). The Matriarch of the hotel is an amazing woman who shows you the pinnacle of loving work in hospitality, and she pours her soul into all the little parts of your stay. Her meals are the best i have had in my 3 trips to Japan, and i dream i can go back someday to enjoy them again. This is not about being the fanciest stay, it is more a traditional ryokan style hotel, tatami floors, futons, and the bath has a scheduled time when it is prepare for you. So there is a schedule. The only warning i give is for people who cannot do stairs, this is a older traditional architecture building with shallow steep stairs. But you are likely in Yamadera for the temple so it you can't do stairs you are likely in the wrong place as the Temple, which begins just behind the hotel has more than 1000 steps. No one speaks in english in town, and the hotel uses a japanese only website to book, we had to slug through google translate and try and try to get the right information in the site to book. That was the only hurdle.I really cannot express how welcomed we were here, it made us feel almost loved, and that spirit resonated throughout the small town in all the shops and stores. If that is what you are looking for a bit of a place to relax and feel like you've lived there forever this is the spot.

This was my first time visiting Yamadera for the purpose of worshiping. Most ryokans cost more than 10,000 yen for a night and two meals, but this hotel offers a very satisfying meal for less than 10,000 yen. This makes me very happy as a student traveling alone. The landlady was also very kind and it was a pleasant trip. I'll come back later.

I stayed there. Even though it was a holiday, the price was reasonable at 8,000 yen per night, and the food was plentiful and delicious. The landlady was also kind and I was able to spend a nice vacation. It's very quiet at night and you can get a good rest.I was glad that I was able to take my time to see and climb Yamadera in the morning when it was quiet.
