During the Meiji period, boat transportation on the Shinano River was actively carried out, and this area seems to have prospered as a logistics base.Ozakiya Ryokan is said to have been founded at that time. For 8,000 yen (tax included) for one night and two meals, you can have hearty meals delivered to your room. The room was clean and comfortable. The proprietress, who resembles the actress Nobuko Miyamoto, was very friendly and accommodating.

I'm from Shirane City (currently Minami Ward, Niigata City due to town and village mergers), and we had a junior high school class reunion before the Obon festival. It was getting late at night, so I looked for a place to stay for the night.Since the Niigata Festival and the Obon Festival coincided, there were no reasonably priced accommodations available near Shirane, Niigata City, or Tsubame-Sanjo, so I called all the hotels with names I knew. So, miraculously, we found this inn.It was a 10-minute taxi ride from the class banquet hall in Shirane, and when we arrived at the inn just before 10am, we were met by a couple.I was told by the kindly hostess that I would take a bath right away, and I drank a lot of non-alcoholic beer and got a little tipsy, so I went to bed without taking a bath. Sorry! I fell asleep in a panic. The next morning, I asked for breakfast at 9am, but I woke up for some reason. It was 5 minutes ago.I couldn't hear the alarm clocks on my two cell phones. It's been decades since I slept so deeply for such a long time, and I feel like I slept a lot when I was a child. The photo shows a nostalgic breakfast that is almost the same as the one I ate at my parents' house when I was a child.Rice, miso soup, salmon, fried tofu and boiled scallops with ginger and ginger condiments, stir-fried eggplant with miso, pickled eggplant, and dessert of grapes and yogurt (which we didn't have when I was a child).Everything was delicious.I ate all the rice without leaving a single grain of rice. (This is what I mean by a literal complete meal. Sorry! I left the skin and bones of the salmon and the stems of the cherry tomatoes.)At Ozakiya Ryokan, we were able to experience Niigata's hospitality and food from the good old days.
