It's a nice inn, but the toilets are shared and men and women are unisex, so be careful if you're a woman. Also, if you walk from Yudanaka Station, it's a 30 minute walk, and the Nagano Electric Railway runs infrequently, and there aren't many limited express trains, so you can take a local train to Nagano Station. Is it a problem that it takes more than an hour? The hot springs were amazing. There are 9 outdoor baths, so it was difficult to visit them all, but it was fun. I want to come again.

This is an old inn in Shibu Onsen. This area is a relatively old inn. Is it true to history? The 9 hot springs tour can only be used by hotel guests. There was a smart ball and a target to pick up, and now it's only a target. It falls quite a bit. Service could be better. You can see fireflies now. It may not be possible for people who want modern services. Motorcycle touring is convenient because it has a roof. The food is also delicious.

All of the inns at Shibu Onsen have a long history, and this one is also a three-story wooden building from the early Showa period, so you can feel the history everywhere. The location is convenient for visiting hot springs, but the inn also boasts a bathroom with running water at just the right temperature. The dining hall, which is accessed through an underground passage, is unusual in that it is an annex located down an alley in the hot spring town from the ground level. Shibu Onsen is also a very interesting hot spring resort architecturally, with many other inns having second-floor corridors above narrow alleys. All of the food was delicious, and not only was the flavor gentle, but the story of the landlady's hardships in the hot spring town and the relationships between the landlady owners, all of which were interesting, with a tone of "That's right!" (^^)

This inn is right in front of Shibu Onsen's first hot spring, Hatsuyu. The photo is of the first bath taken from the guest room.I think this is the perfect accommodation for visiting public baths! There is only one locker with a key in the public bath, and you are responsible for keeping your valuables at your own risk (although you can usually leave them where they can be seen from the bathroom). So leave everything at your accommodation and just bring a towel and some coins (to buy juice to stay hydrated). It was also nice that they accepted solo guests. This time I stayed alone with a breakfast only plan, and had dinner at a nearby pub. Traveling like this is also fun.The room was exactly like a Showa-era inn, but it had a nice atmosphere. The futons were laid out from the beginning, and they were never taken up during breakfast, and they were never put up until the end, except when the landlady came in to give an explanation at check-in. I'm glad it's not the Showa style in this regard.

Illegal receipt of 3.45 million yen prefectural discount...As someone who loves Yudanakashibu Onsenkyo, I am very disappointed. What if you go out of business voluntarily?

Super nice couple, drove us to the monkey park and even to the train station early the next morning. A little rustic, but overall great value.

This was our first ryokan experience, so we were clueless as to what to expect. They were kind enough to offer us pickup from and to the Yudanaka station. The first thing they suggested is to get us to Snow Monkey Park instead of the ryokan. This made sense because we arrived in the morning so that we would get back from the park around check in time, but it was quite thoughtful of them. When we checked in, they gave us cute tags of our names in Japanese chained to our room key. Hatsunoyu is very strategically located because just in front of it stands the public onsen No. 1 and it's also close to the restaurants. The ryokan has separate private onsen for men and women (you have to shower there too), which is definitely a plus so that you do not need to go outside if its too cold. The room itself isn't luxurious in the sense of Western 5 starred hotels, but you do get to feel the traditional Japan experience, including tea making kit, yukatas, and many amenities (even hair dryer in the onsen). We had kaiseki dinner and breakfast which weren't by any means lavish; they were simple but fulfilling with fresh fish and delicious veggies. On the table at the first floor there were also dressup cards styled like they were made in the 90s. We didn't realize they were all the Shibu Onsen ryokan owners. It was a very cute way of promoting the onsen. Most of all, we were impressed by the fact that this ryokan is run by just a couple (Yuko and her husband) but they responded so fast, acted proactively and treated us as if we were the only guests. Would really recommend this place to everyone.
