Staying out of the city in a true, traditional ryokan was incredible. The staff was happy to accommodate a foreigner like me. They were also overjoyed to help me practice speaking Japanese as well! The hot spring is segmented into private time slots for guests, public male, public female, and from midnight to 6am, it’s public coed. The bedroom was also perfect. Traditional tatami mats for the floor, and a very comfortable futon.

An excellent Onsen and Ryokan. Only a 5-min walk from the main station. The Ryokan has two baths. One area is inside for men/woman separate that includes the area you would shower. The second area is outside with rotating times, a mixed time, and a private time where you get to reserve a 30-minute time slot when you check-in. This is more then enough time and it was the picture perfect image of an onsen that you may have seen on Google or in an Anime. We opted out of dinner as there are plenty of restaurants nearby, including a great sushi spot just a few doors down. Breakfast was wonderful with a selection of food that filled you up. Check-out is at 10:00am with the baths closing at 9:00am that allows time for you to bath in the morning once again. Would highly recommend 5/5.

It's located downhill about a 14-minute walk from the station. The rooms and other facilities are a little old, but they are well kept and there are no complaints. Wi-Fi is available, but the signal may be weak in some rooms, so if you want to watch a video, it's best to download it in advance. There are indoor baths and open-air baths that can be reserved for private use, so this will be determined at check-in, but the baths will be arranged in the order of arrival, so if you wish to reserve a private bath, we recommend checking in early. The meals are made with locally sourced ingredients, but I felt like there was a lot of mushrooms, perhaps because of the location.I think the quantity is sufficient for those of us who eat little, but it may not be enough for younger people. There are no vending machines at the inn itself, so if you don't have enough to drink, we recommend purchasing at a nearby izakaya or a convenience store near the station. Also, you can get drinks if you ask at the front desk until 9pm.It was an inn with such warm service from check-in to check-out that they waited until they were out of sight to see us off.

We had a beautiful stay here, a friend of a friend recommended and we are so glad we came. We felt very welcome and were given local tips on places to go. We’ve never experienced onsen before so a friendly introduction and some instruction was so helpful. Thank you so much!

Super glad to have discovered this hotel after seeing it feature on a Tik Tok video. We chose this for a 1nt stay to combine visiting the Snow Monkey Park and to experience an Onsen.Family hosts were super friendly and the hotel and rooms are extremely clean. Had the best night sleep of my Japan trip on the Ryokan bed.Breakfast served was traditional Japanese food, rice, fish, green beans and Matcha tea.Best part was the lovely clean Onsen, there is a shared onsen and also a private Onsen which you can request a time at check-in for a small fee. It's a little further way from shibu-onsen village but don't let that put you off as it's only 10mins walk and only 7mins to train Station.Overall wonderful experience.

Stayed for 3 nights and really enjoyedit Situated close to Yudanaka station. Can be reached through a small footpath. From the station busses go regularly to the snow monkey resort. The hotel is 1.5km outside of the actual Onsen village, however, it offers both indoor and outdoor Onsen. The latter can be reserved for private time per room.Staff is very friendly and the host speaks very good English. I also enjoyed the Japanese breakfast. Definitely would come back.

The staff are very nice. I have informed late arrival and they left the key and all detailed instructions in a hand written sheet for my arrival convenience. Although the ryokan is bit old, it’s traditional Japanese style, and it has an excellent indoor and outdoor Onsen. Reserved private bath is provided on a slot basis. The breakfast is so-so. With the price, I would give high recommendation.

Clean rooms and nice onsen outside. Unfortunately we were unable to have dinner because we arrived too late, so keep this in mind or reserve it in advance.
