This guest house was an amazing stay for my first solo trip to Kinosaki onsen. I wouldn't call it a hostel, it is more of a guest house/ hotel. When I first arrived, the front desk gave me instructions for entering the room, using the facilities, and check out procedure in Japanese and English. I also received a coupon for one entrance to one of the onsen in the town. My favorite feature of this accommodation was the comfy room wear they provided- kind of like jinbei. Overall I felt very safe and cozy here! As someone who normally only stays in hostels- this was a major upgrade!!

We visited during the off season (June) and would highly recommend. The value for your money is great as compared to other hotels around which are double the price. The other hotels include an unlimited pass to the local onsens but for the price difference you can get a pass for much cheaper when bought directly on site at the onsen and you don’t really miss out on not having your own in room onsen. We went to Goshonoyu Onsen and the view of the waterfall and moon and stars was nice. There’s an onsite dry barrel sauna with a cold (not ice) plunge that requires reservation and a bathing suit. It requires a free reservation because it’s not huge, and yet needs a bathing suit bc it’s not 100% secluded. I thought it was unnecessary (since all the onsens are within walking distance) and I wouldn’t use it but after biking with my wife to the beach, the last thing I wanted to do was go anywhere else, so it was actually a really nice feature, esp as the local onsens do not offer any cold pools (tho a cold shower would be roughly of the same effect). I think next time I’d go across the street to Family Mart and just buy some ice to drop into the cold plunge to make it colder. The thermal cycling helped my muscles recover and sleep better in the evening. The hostel includes all the towels and necessary yukata (kimono like dress for bathing). There are kimonos available for rent. There’s no breakfast included but there’s a breakfast place right next door that has great burgers for breakfast. It’s a small hostel with only 8 or 12 rooms yet offers a great working area. Although we came for vacation, the workspace offered would make a good place for a digital nomad. There’s no elevator and so perhaps not great for families with strollers or large luggage.Location is great, super walkable everywhere and not far from the train station. We’d stay here again.
