It has the feel of a famous inn from the Showa era. The exterior, interior, and courtyard are wonderful. The customer service is courteous, the accommodation costs are not expensive, and the dinner is very delicious.

I have to say, we were extremely pleased with our stay at Hamadaya Ryokan. I'd give more than five stars if I could. The food was delicious, the bath was lovely, and all the things you expect from a Japanese inn, but I would like to highlight two things in particular.1. The building - the main part of the building was built in the second year of Meiji (there was a fire and was rebuilt meaning the inn has been in business way more than that!). It is kept in very good shape and spotlessly clean. There is a huge mirror in the dining room which was a gift to the inn by a group of silkworm merchants who stayed at Hamadaya on their sales trip to Saku from Suwa using Nakasendo, that tells you how historic this place is. Our room was an early Showa period addition (almost 100 years old). I have stayed in many ryokan and minshuku but this was one of the nicest. Not extravagant, but craftsmanship were observed in details in its upholstery.2. Hosts - the inn is run by two ladies, mother and daughter. Extremely friendly, open, kind and hospitable. Kotatsu was heated prior to our arrival so it was nice and warm when we got there. They shared stories about the inn, the history of the area, the family, etc, everything about them was just charming, and is reflected in the way the inn is run and that makes a huge difference.I would love to come back with my family.

This inn is located along Nakasendo and has been around for a long time. The hostess was a pleasant person and we had a great time. It was built around the beginning of the Meiji era, so I don't know how many generations it is now. That's right! If you're walking along the Nakasendo route, please use it!

It is located in the middle of Nakasendo Nagakubo-juku. I walked 31km along Nakasendo from here to Shimosuwa. He told me a lot about the conditions along the way, the people who were crossing the mountain pass, etc. When I asked for lunch, they prepared some very delicious rice balls, which I was able to enjoy at the pass. Although the toilet, bath, and washroom are in separate rooms, it is a good inn that is reminiscent of old travels for those walking the Nakasendo. I am very satisfied with the hostess's thoughtfulness and the food.

This is an inn from the good old days. Baths and toilets are shared. I think you can enjoy the feeling of staying in a Showa era inn. The meals are hearty.

It's a really tasteful hotel. The perfect location for walking Nakasendo. The gentle and kind proprietress is kind. The room is clean and has a good feel. Although it's good that the bathroom and toilet are shared, it's on the 1st floor, so it's difficult to get there at night from a room on the 2nd floor. The meals are normal home-cooked meals. This is also a taste of travel. There is only a dry goods store nearby, but there is no nighttime entertainment. It gets quiet at night (and during the day too).
