Great hostel! We slept in the dormitories and the night went very well (mattress a little hard). The school is amazing, we even got to play basketball in the gym!

One night while climbing. Overall, it is spacious and clean, and the staff has good customer service. Trekking along the old Nakasendo from Magome-juku to Tsumago-juku is popular, and the atmosphere of the renovated old school seems to be popular, so most of the guests are foreign tourists. Recommended if you don't mind talking to foreigners. I was worried that it would be noisy, but everyone had good manners and it was quiet.

As far as dorm style accommodation goes, this is the best experience I've ever had. Each bed is like its own room, very comfortable with a lockable box, lamp and full curtain for privacy. Clean facilities. Wonderful friendly and helpful staff.

The proportion of foreigners is higher than in the city, and in the evening there was a French family in the kitchen trying their hand at cooking fresh soba noodles and instant cup soba noodles that seemed to have been purchased from a nearby souvenir shop. I had a valuable and interesting time, starting with choosing the fish, teaching them how to boil it and how to season it with cold water, and in the evening enjoying a conversation with a tourist from the Netherlands in the lounge. This is a place where guests can enjoy meeting each other. As other reviews have said, the facility was very clean and the host was very kind and polite, making my stay comfortable and safe.

This place was a pleasant surprise for us. The pictures on Booking don't do it justice. The accommodation is an old school, but it's wonderfully kept and has a unique atmosphere. We stayed in a private room, which was once a classroom, so it was huge. We had 2 beds, a sofa, table and chairs, a shoe rack, a sink, and a large balcony. The place also has a communal kitchen and very clean shared bathrooms. Location was very good, only a short walk from the picturesque village. Definitely one of the most memorable places we have stayed in during our trip to Japan!
