A very pleasant cooperative hotel.Perfect cleanliness and courteous service.The Japanese style toilets (including a bidet) and a shower including a bathtub are shared (not in the room).The landlord speaks English, in the common living room, possibility to make coffee and in the morning bread and jam/honey/chocolate-peanut butter spread.You take off your shoes at the entrance and switch to slippers (for large sizes 47+) you should bring them from home.The location is very convenient, there is a convenience store nearby, close to sites and attractions.We arrived in September, a herd of reindeer was waiting swimming in the grass in front of the hotel

Basic accommodation with all the things you need. There are 8 guest rooms sharing 2 shower rooms and 2 toilets (plus 2 male urinal rooms), which we don’t have any problem at all during our 2 nights stay.Location is not in the city center but not too far. You can reach it within 5-10 min drive.Owner / staff are super friendly and helpful prior to our check-in and arrange reservation for the whale / bear boat trips.

Very basic accommodation but clean. Breakfast was also very basic. Room is small but clean. For us the big plus was the distance to Shiretoko Nature Cruise. It is only a 6 minutes drive.

The reason for 3 star is because out of the 4 toilets for the many visitors, 2 are exclusively for male(only urinal) while the other two are unisex.
I may not have booked this place if I had known it. Otherwise, the rest of the amenities are good.

20 minutes walk out of town, so best if you have a car. All day complimentary tea and coffee most welcome. Breakfast very simple, toast and coffee but you can use the microwave to cook your own food in the small dining area. No en suite rooms. In need of some routine maintenance.

We had a great three nights at the Bear Elephant. The owner is very helpful and super friendly (best thing about this hotel). The whale watching trip he recommended was amazing. Feel free to ask him for travel tips, he is a Hokkaido expert and can spend time talking with you. Room is clean, Japanese style futon is lovely and comfortable, soundproofing is not superb due to hotel structure (which we experienced this in many Japanese small hotel / hostel / inn) but we had no issue with that during our stay. Easy breakfast corner is well enough with bread, jam, coffee, tea, and etc. (microwave available). Overall a lovely stay for us and total value for money.

Booked four nights but left after the first. The walls were paper thin and unfortunately guests did not show the common curtesy given at most shared houses. Yelling and kids running up and down the hallways way past 1030. I am assuming no one was on premises to ensure etiquete. Despite asking them to be more mindful that this was a shared space the noise continued. trying to contact the owner to see about getting our money back for the three nights we had already paid for considering the conditions. The number left at the front desk does not get an answer. I will continue to try. Key have been turned into the box in the front office.

The front of each room is decorated with symbols of animals found in Shiretoko National Park.The hotel is near the Shiretoko National Park entrance and natural onsen.Run by a young, smiling Thai man who has been living in this area for 17 years and has experience in nature travel and photography. Ready to provide services to guests.

A new, well-designed interior in a convenient location. The BearElephant has a bright and friendly vibe with friendly staff. A great base for photographers or adventurers to recharge before and after exploring Rause or Shiretoko. Near natural hot springs and just off the popular road that takes you over the mountains of Shiretoko Peninsula. Very clean with comfy futons, wi-fi and a dining area for tea or coffee. Make your reservations soon at this hidden gem!

This inn is an old inn that has been completely renovated. It was a comfortable space full of hospitality. There is no hot spring at the inn (there is a regular bath), but there are day-use hot spring facilities such as Mine no Yu nearby. The Thai owner was originally engaged in the tourism industry in Thailand, and is very knowledgeable about the tourism situation in eastern Hokkaido. We can also provide you with detailed advice if you wish to do something like this.
