As with everything in life, where there is a lot of light, there is also a lot of shadow.Positive: the atmosphere of the hotel is very well furnished.Negative: apparently the outdoor area, here the courtyard is meant, is not particularly well maintained in autumn. (weeds in the pavement)There may also be bathrooms in the hotel for normal-sized Europeans, but ours was probably made for people of short stature. 1.5 x 1.5 meters are simply not enough for a shower, toilet and sink. There are no windows, only a fan, so there are black corners, especially since the entire mini bathroom was covered in plastic.The dinner in the hotel is good and expensive!, a large beer (0.4 l) is available for the price of 0.5 l. It's better to save on spirits.Incidentally, the entertainment ends promptly at 9 p.m., after which it's over for fun. Of course, there is no separate room to spend some time together. Unfortunately there is no alternative in this place either, curbs up and down.The breakfast offered is currently available for 15 euros per person. Sausage, cheese, eggs, possibly small. Meatballs, rolls, juice and tea. The (quite weak) coffee is distributed by the owners in a pump pot. After the second/third cup you are asked whether you pour the coffee under the table. By the way, the same good coffee is available in the afternoon for €5 per cup. Not to forget, e-bike drivers are of course allowed to pay extra for electricity charging, and there is a lockable charging station on the farm. It is forbidden in the room for safety reasons, which is OK.In any case, we won't be visiting this hotel again, the tradition that this hotel maintains is impressive, there were certainly big events there in the past, but that's over, and as a purely family business, the owners are now apparently overwhelmed.Conclusion: a star goes down here, but that's just my opinion.

Visited the restaurant last Sunday.Cozy atmosphere, friendly hosts and a relaxed saying for every guest.Very good and tasty food, and generous portions.We'd love to come back

Spend 3 days cycling holiday here. Former estate converted into an adventure hotel. Great location for cycling upstream to the 3 castles in Dornbug or downstream to Naumburg with the world heritage cathedral.Unfortunately, as a house guest you have to pay 3 euros per bike per day for the charging station. 3 euros is approximately 7.5 KW of electricity for just one 400 watt battery. With 2 wheels you had to buy 15 KW of electricity, otherwise the column wouldn't activate. And then every day! A real gold mine.On our entire Saale tour from the Qulle to Hotel Sonnekalb, charging was always free.

The room was on the ground floor, but had a bit of a basement feeling. Outside the room there is a somewhat unpleasant smell of a mixture of oil and strong cleaning products. The room itself smells good. The furnishings of the room are ok. To one side of the room you have a view of the local cemetery. The bed is comfortable. The bikes could be locked in a separate room. Unfortunately there was no dinner for us on Sunday evening. But the hotel owner's tip was really good. We were able to eat delicious food in the Thüringer Weinstube (restaurant in the Zahn winery), which was 1 km away. On the one hand, the staff was nice and tried hard, but at times a bit snippy. The breakfast buffet was ok, a selection of different seeds and grains would have been nice.

We didn't go to the hotel, just to the restaurant.Otherwise everything is clean and the food is really good. Only the boss said that I didn't say that I wanted non-alcoholic beer (I don't drink alcohol during the day and I repeated it three times) and in the end he said that there was no time left to make cream puffs. In the catering industry, you simply shouldn't discuss things with customers and certainly shouldn't lecture them.The cream was simple spray cream and ran and the cream puff didn't bake properly

I would like to thank the Sonnekalb family very much for a very nice stay.You made it very pleasant for us.The rooms and the entire property are very lovingly designed and offer a place to relax.The owners and staff were also very friendly and accommodating and served us drinks even after the restaurant closed.The breakfast is also very rich and varied.I can also only recommend the very good cuisine in the house, very tasty and prepared with love.A small museum invites you to remember old times, that was also a really great thing. The senior of the house told us some stories that made us smile.From my side, I can only recommend this hotel and we will definitely stay there again.Thank you again for the very nice and pleasant stay with you.

Very nicely located hotel in the Saale Valley. Many sights in close proximity. The Saale cycle path leads directly past the hotel.Lovely and exceptionally friendly hosts and staff.

Our impression of the 3 star Hotel Sonnenkalb was mixed.We arrived by bike, without much luggage.Because the Hotel Sonnenkalb is also recognized as a cycling hotel.The location is wonderful, the inner courtyard is lovingly furnished and has many beautiful details.The room had a very comfortable bed.There was no shampoo or shower gel in the shower.Unfortunately there was no bottle of water or a refrigerator with drinks.The breakfast was rich and very good.You have to be aware that there is simply nothing to shop in the surrounding area > 3 km away and plan accordingly.When we asked in a friendly manner at the Hotel Sonnenkalb whether there were drinks available for hotel guests (water/wine/beer/juice), the owner responded very bluntly and personally: "You can go to the larger neighboring town, it's in our area City too!"That spoiled our mood for dinner and we arewent somewhere else to eat.We consider the things criticized above to be standard for such a hotel and its prices. There is always the possibility that something is missing, but the answer was almost a personal insult. I have rarely experienced a friendly atmosphere turning negative so quickly and making you feel uncomfortable within seconds.This applies exclusively to the owner.The rest of the staff was very friendly.

We booked a guesthouse near the hotel, which is why I can't rate the rooms. However, we went to the hotel a few times to eat ice cream with the children. The children were thrilled. The owners and staff are extremely nice and the kids immediately felt at home. Birds here, cats there, ostriches or horses being led past, there was always something going on and everyone was extremely nice. Cyclists are constantly driving through the town, having a drink in peace, charging or pumping up their bikes and enjoying the peace and quiet. Rudelsburg and Saleck Castle are also nearby. A vacation here is worth it. The only two drawbacks are that there are no shops nearby to quickly buy something and the train tracks are a few hundred meters away. During the day you don't notice anything, but at night you notice the last train at around 10 a.m. when it's completely quiet outside.

On my bike tour to Usedom I booked the Hotel Sonnekalb as a stopover because I can have dinner there and there was no other accommodation in the area after an 85 km stage. Unfortunately it didn't work out, because the day before arrival the hotel informed me that the restaurant was closed due to an internal event and that arrival on that day was only possible until 5 p.m. and that I should look for other accommodation if necessary. In the absence of any nearby alternatives, I stuck with my booking. So I left early the next day to make sure I was there by 5 p.m. Worked too. Reception was friendly, rooms were good. First disillusionment: an extra €2.00 was charged for charging the bike battery (for a room price of €86.00 WITHOUT breakfast!).Next surprise the following morning: At breakfast I asked the employee if I could take some chamomile tea with me in my thermos for the journey. The meaningless answer was: “Now let’s make breakfast.” I asked again later, again only the meaningless answer: “I’m busy serving coffee now”. So I got the hot water from the buffet and made my chamomile tea. Immediately the man of the house came around the corner and said rather harshly: “That’s not how it works. You have to pay for the tea, we can't do all of that without paying. …” I told him that I had no problem with that, the only problem was that I didn’t receive an answer from the employee to my repeated questions. From then on the mood towards the gentleman was “very icy”.My conclusion to all cyclists: Avoid the Hotel Sonnekalb, because for me it's a little too much about “making money”. Paying extra for electricity for an e-bike and then having no hot water and 2 tea bags left over for a thermos flask at a breakfast price of €12.00 doesn't suit a hotel that promotes cycling travelers and cycling groups in its brochure and on the Internet . Thousands of Bed+Bike guesthouses in the country can do this better. It's a shame actually.Stephan Seyfarth

We stayed as a cycling group (13 people) with the Sonnekalb family for a week. Everyone was thrilled by the lovingly furnished rooms, the great courtyard and, above all, the delicious food. The hearty hay hock and the spicy manor pan were the highlight. Bread from the 100-year-old wood-burning oven was served, a poem. The hosts and all the staff were always friendly and nice. Mr. and Mrs. Sonnekalb were available at all times and gave us organizational help and excursion tips. The grandpa of the house showed us through the in-house museum. Countless objects that we have collected ourselves from households and agriculture, as well as fairy tales made from hay, can be admired there.

4 people from Dresden stayed in this great hotel and would like to thank the entire team! It's just a magical place with wonderfully friendly staff! A small world of its own, where warmth towards guests is very important. The beautiful rooms and guest rooms in country house style round off the whole thing. Breakfast is served with a lot of love and good humor and there is something for every gourmet. We can recommend this oasis to everyone and will definitely come back!
