It’s very unfortunate to give this rating as the hotel itself is nice, the rooms are large and comfortable, the food is good and it’s a nice location. And the garden is really pretty! However, the owner ruins the experience and makes us never want to go back. She’s super negative, micro managing, rude and uncomfortable. We called on the day of our arrival to advise that the drive was taking longer than expected but we should still arrive before 9pm. Her response was “we won’t be here if you arrive after 9”. At breakfast we heard her complaining about guests in front of other guests in a very negative manner - making us wonder, is she also talking badly about us? We tried to get drinks at the bar (which was supposed to be open until 9pm) and at 840 were turned away and told “we also have quitting time and want to go home”. We asked if we could simply buy a bottle of water and the attitude was ice cold and barely allowed like this was a major inconvenience for them. Another evening we asked if they had a hot water kettle we could borrow or get hot water somewhere to make tea in our room later - “oh no, that’s absolutely not possible. We don’t have those kinds of services here.” As a paying guest for 5 days (in a tiny town where everything closes at 8pm) we didn’t feel like we were welcomed or able to just relax anywhere at the facility outside of our room. We specifically didn’t eat dinner at the hotel because we wanted to avoid further interactions. We talked with some other people in the town who also said the same thing about the owner so it seems to be a standard practice.Very unfortunate but customer service is what makes or breaks an experience and in our case it made it so we would never go back.

This would be a pretty good hotel, clean, comfortable (rooms in summer were a bit hot, especially under the roof, no AC nor fan), good garden, good location, good breakfast... but with a different management. It is family-run and they clearly have not been to the school of hospitality. The lady owner has mood changes and is never missing a chance to shout at guests for any excuse, lecture them lengthily, and does never listen. There are also memory issues there, as, the day we arrived, we were angrily told she had told us "the day before" what the last order time in their restaurant was. She would not listen when we said we had just arrived (even checked in with her). All the while, what appeared to be a relative (doing service but also check-ins/out), laughing openly at guests in the total confusion. Such a lack of respect for guests is just not acceptable and at times, it really felt the business is run by people out of their minds. Chatting around in the village it appears the issues of this hotel management are well-known. Frankly horrible and repulsive... what a pity.

We booked this hotel because of the good price and we were very satisfied with this hotel, because Putgarten is a very quiet place and a really good possibility to relax and enjoy the island of Rügen. …

The room is kept nicely and warm. Very quite hotel and village of Putgarten in general. Nothing disturbs at night at all. Room service is nice, everything clean. Food at the restaurant is good, breakfast good and reasonably diverse. …

This is a family run hotel/restaurant and you can feel that everything runs smoothly. We had a double room overlooking the lovely garden in which a lot of tender loving care had been put. …

Had a very bizzare experience with this hotel and restaurant to say the least. The restaurant was close to empty when we arrived; with no one sitting on the outside and only one of the table being occupied inside. However, the waiters rudely denied us service claiming "everything was booked out"?!? As soon as we came in, they blocked our way in a menacing way, asking what is our business there (well, we originally thought dinner would be nice). Outrageous behavior to say the least.

Great place to go eat in Putgarten. Nice menu with great local dishes. I had the Grünkohl with Kasseler and Rauchwurst. Loved it. Friendly staff and genuine service. I can also recommend the potato soup as a starter.
