Very pleasant two night stay here. The main disadvantage is that the hotel is far from the main train station (we were traveling by mass transit) and since we had not figured out the Tram system yet, we had to lug our suitcases a long way. …

My wife and I were travelling round Germany by train in Jan 2024. When we arrived in Berlin we discovered that the Deutsche Bahn train drivers were going on strike for 6 days. This really scuppered our travel plans as we risked being unable to reach our destinations and/or getting stuck at various places. So we decided to head to Poland instead. I contacted 4 German hotels that we were booked into during those 6 days, explained our predicament, and all kindly agreed to cancel our bookings without charge - EXCEPT this one that refused! They charged over £200 for 2 nights when we could not get to Erfurt! A very poor reflection on the hotel to foreign visitors.Many establishments and companies only show their real attitude to customer service when issues arise. I have no doubt that when things go well this hotel is fine. But if things go wrong you now know what to expect. Hotel Domizil doesn't believe in customer service, only their profits.I would take the safe option: book elsewhere where they know how to treat guests properly. Don't take the risk. We landed in Erfurt the Friday night of the annual city fiesta with the old town, where this pleasant hotel is located, filled up with partying people. Mrs Herber, the owner of the hotel, had been kind enough to work overtime to greet us upon arrival from Lund in Sweden after a long drive with multiple "Umleitungen" due to accidents. There is private parking but inform the hotel that you need it when reserving your room. Mrs Herber showed us to our elegantly decorated room on the second floor with view over the courtyard. For a dad-daughter couple, the layout is not ideal, with an open sort of bathroom, leaving little intimacy, despite a curtain, but this is not the first time we have been confronted with this in Germany during our many trips together, so we managed. There are many interesting details and nothing is missing. The bed is luxuriously comfortable and the shower perfect. We had an early breakfast, strictly organized, where, again, nothing was missing. Mrs Herber assisted her staff which is rare these days and a sign of deep involvement, that we always appreciate. Highly recommended!

As someone else said, Erfurt is out of the way for US and non-German tourists, but if you're going there, this is the place to stay. Hotel Domizil is right on the Dom Platz and in the Andreas section of the city, near lots of great sites, including those related to Martin Luther and the kramerbruncke. The location was great. The staff was also very friendly and attentive, and the daily breakfast was amazing. The rooms and building are also beautiful, with a history that dates to the 16th century.If you're going to Erfurt, you can't go wrong staying at Hotel Domizil.
