WOW!! I mean if I had been reviewing this on what i paid - €350 per night, it would be getting minus 5 stars but I am reviewing it based on say an average €70 per night room rate. First of all the positives.  …

Location is not the best, being in quite a shady part of town, but just keep your wits about you. I could not complain about the room (small but functional for a night) but has a very comfy bed, staff spoke excellent English. Short walk to the Cathedral which I suspect is the main attraction of the city, so mostly good in terms of location. Lifts (elevators) are small, meaning you will need to take multiple trips to transport all your luggage. This is definitely better quality than you will get at a Premier Inn which was when I booked £250 for one night. Be aware that city tax is NOT included in the price, but it is normal in Germany, so I have no issues with it. Nothing to complain about. Thank you to all the A&O staff here for accommodating us.

Could not be a more ideal location. Quality of rooms and amenities is great, staff are very helpful. Victoria, who checked me in, was very kind and generous in her hospitality. Have an unbelievable view from my room:

Rooms were very dirty, with stained blankets and sheets, dirty walls, and a bad smell throughout. The only positive was the friendly receptionist who tried to help, but overall, the cleanliness needs serious improvement. Would not stay again.

Great place! A short walk to the Cathedral and the main station, tight and small room though, hardly any space for one big suitcase, loud at night when the window is left open. Great service from the staff!

Hi, this Prince my grandparent came from Brazil to visit Cologne and they were very happy with your services. Michael at the reception was very warmhearted and took care for my grandparent. Unfortunately he wasn’t work on the day they checked out. Thank you Michael

Brilliant location just a very short walk from the cathedral. The room was small, clean, but small!. I am well upholstered and had to squeeze around the metal bed frame and found the shower barely accessible. It is clean and functional but small

Our stay at A&o Köln was fine until we spoke with one worker. When we arrived the first woman who checked us in was lovely, super nice and showed us where to fill our water up. The next morning we went back to fill up our water and we were stared at by a male worker. He kept staring until I finished filling it up and then said “that’s only for breakfast”. I explain that another worker told us it’s okay and he kept saying no it’s for breakfast only. He was super rude and unfriendly. He kept staring at us like we were idiots for filling up a water bottle. I have never heard of any hostel / hotel not letting a guest fill up a water bottle, it’s a simple human need. Another woman worker who was the manager let us fill up the water later that night and was super nice, she also gave us a fan for the room. Upon checking out the male worker was there and he was extremely standoffish. We gave him our room keys and then stood there for about 5 minutes until we had to ask if everything is okay. He looked up and said “yep” as if he was angry at us.This man was extremely rude and unhelpful. He lacks not just customer service skills but general people skills. We understand this is just a regular hostel and not a 5* hotel, we don’t except insane amounts of service, but we don’t expect to feel uncomfortable and judged for simply having water. The other two women were amazing and extremely helpful.

Great location, great price. The Hostel is very nice and clean and it’s incredibly conveniently located: 200 meters from the Dom and the main station of Cologne. I had a very good experience here and I would come back again.
