The entrance definitely needs to be better signposted!!Unfortunately, the construction site makes it very difficult to see and it took us a long time to find it.Also: PLEASE CREATE CHEESE at the breakfast buffet! A must.

The rooms are fine but the security is unbearable. Every single night someone has come to tell us we were loud, when we were in our room barely talking. The security lurks around the room pressing their ears against each door to see if they hear anything. We cannot even have a simple conversation, which is unbelievable. Not being able to talk is a room you paid is unacceptable.

The youth hostel is very well located for exploring Munich. We had booked a family room and were generally satisfied with the furnishings. Unfortunately the beds were very hard and although there were six beds there were only two chairs at a tiny table so staying in the room was not attractive. There are currently no parking options available, so you have to expect costs of €11 per day (in the surrounding streets) and be very lucky to get a parking space nearby.Due to the ongoing renovation of the entire hostel, some of it looks very new and modern (unfortunately it is already evident in many places that it was built cheaply). The common rooms with table football/table tennis were not yet finished at this time. Our children therefore tried to keep themselves busy in the atrium and were unnecessarily told by the staff that they shouldn't play there, just sit. Unfortunately, I don't know where children should stay in the youth hostel.Unfortunately I have to rate the food as poor. Even though the youth hostel advertises its vegan offerings and we specifically registered for it, there were exactly two spreads for breakfast for a whole week. No variance in sight. There was no labeling for vegetarian/vegan foods, so we had few options.

We stayed in this youth hostel with our children. We travel quite a bit and have been able to visit a few youth hostels. Therefore, we think we can make a fair comparison between the DJH.Per:This hostel is super centrally located if you want to explore Munich and the surrounding area. It was or is currently being renovated and has a modern, new shine, so that you no longer feel the DJH feeling of your own childhood. You get the feeling that you are staying in a good hotel.Neutral:Due to the construction work, there were no parking spaces available and finding a spot in the nearby area was a bit of a gamble and if you found a spot on the street, you had to pay a fee of 11 euros per day.Furthermore, all of the common rooms were not yet finished, so our children had nothing to do.But that certainly won't be a factor in the near future when everything is finished.Cons:The friendliness of the staff could be a little more in line with our experiences in other hostels. We particularly noticed negatively how we treated the guest children. As already described above, there were no common rooms, so there were a lot of children playing in the atrium, which was probably a thorn in the side of the operators and the children were expelled relatively harshly the first time. The DJH advertises itself with vegan variants upon request. So we booked a vegan breakfast. What we got was a joke, for a week the morning selection was hummus & tomato paste. No variety, no variation, no discount. You looked in vain for signs indicating which foods are vegan. We were then offered loose-leaf binders with allergens to do our own research. We've never had such a bad offer. Even in DJH where we hadn't explicitly registered for vegan food, there was more choice and variety every day. Conclusion:We will not visit this DJH again. As written above, it looks like a hotel and that's how the guests should behave. However, we are looking for special youth hostels for our excursions, as we have always had the feeling that people are open to children and like to see them as guests, even if they behave in an age-appropriate manner. We couldn't experience that here.We can certainly recommend it for business travelers but not for families with children. Too bad!

Clean motel. Helpful service. Good location in terms of communication, e.g. metro. Breakfast in the form of a cold plate. Coffee, tea. The price is adequate to the place. There is nothing to "cling to".

I decided to leave a review of the City Youth Hostel in Munich, not because I found it to be particularly good, but because a lot went wrong that shouldn't have happened. Which is why I think it's right and, above all, important to make people who are thinking about going there aware of it and to think about it again. I was there myself with my friends to spend a nice weekend in Munich. The youth hostel itself looks quite modern on the outside, but the furnishings are solid. One experience that ruined our weekend to some extent was that our complaint was not addressed. We were given a room that was below dignity (with insects) and at the same time were exposed to a health risk. Nobody felt obliged. Nobody wanted to take responsibility. We received a replacement room at a much later date. An employee of the youth hostel blamed us for the condition of the room, a very impossible and unprofessional behavior. To date we have not received any reimbursement, but have been rejected with “own fault” and “personal responsibility”. I advise everyone to avoid this hostel and rather spend more on a hotel where you will still be welcomed as a guest and treated fairly. Never again!!!!

Update: My review was also removed for "defamation", even though it contained no text 7 years after my stay.I can only agree with many other reviews, but of course my experience was 7 years ago.

If I could give zero stars I would. The food in prison is fresher than here. The beds are rock hard. The potatoes were so hard that they could be used as ammunition. We were threatened with sanctions at every murmur. The rooms we got were not the ones we ordered (disorganized). If I had to decide whether I had to sleep in a strange stairwell or they would find me in the stairwell.
