The rooms were very dirty, especially on the floor and in the bathroom. The service was neither friendly nor helpful, instead there were flippant answers when there was anyone at all. There was also no response to my advance request about vegan catering. I still paid for the food I couldn't eat.The youth hostel is beautifully located between the dunes and close to the beach. However, you still have to take a long walk to Westerland (about an hour on foot). I find it almost cheeky to sell it as a “Westerland” youth hostel. We're never coming back.

Overall, we really liked it in the youth hostel. The location (right on the seafront and a beach walk from town) can't be beat, the food (and packed lunch options) was very good. The youth hostel took care of organizing activities. The pillows were super comfortable. If I'm not mistaken, one of the tents looked a bit moldy on the inside (this was already mentioned in another review). The only thing that can still be improved in my opinion is the organization.- We received various information in advance about whether a sheet was available or not (for example, the cover letter for the occupancy contract states that the beds on the campsite do not have sheets). We found out from the mother of a student that you can also rent bed linen.- We came with 5 classes and were therefore a very large group. We waited 50 minutes to be picked up at the train station (the JHB is probably not to blame for this). When we checked in, the children waited outside for another eternity in the midday heat while every single day was discussed with us teachers. I lacked a bit of sensitivity here.- We were sent a tent plan in advance, filled it out and sent it back. On site it turned out that the number of beds was partly incorrect (because we were not told which tents were the carers). So we had to re-plan (the children were waiting outside) and lug beds back and forth.- We find the wording "Price per person including teacher" on the booking form for the activities a bit misleading (the management at the JHB saw it differently and put it down to the way teachers think). An employee said on the phone that teachers were included; Later that wasn't the case (but it wasn't the end of the world either). Here (as with the sheets) we had the feeling again that one person didn't know what the other was saying.Overall, we still really liked it and would like to come back at some point. For potential guests: We found the "Wadden Hike" we booked disappointing (the JHB can't do anything about that).

Fantastic location in the middle of the natural dunes, directly behind it is the North Sea with a very wide, fine sandy beach, where we were often almost alone. Every now and then porpoises and seals have appeared near the shore - it couldn't be better! We really enjoyed the full board, a big thank you to the many kitchen fairies :-)Our son was an enthusiastic regular guest in the table tennis room. We'll be back soon :-)

I went camping and there was a super calm atmosphere. It was quiet at night and you could sleep very well. There was a room that was great for relaxing inside. The path to the beach was very short and the beach was beautiful.

About the tents: The tents were dirty and the beds were extremely hard. There was mold on the tent wall and one of the beds was full of mold. The youth hostel itself looked good and was clean, but the food was so good.About the food: The breakfast was "okay", there were rolls and cold cuts. But the dinner was very bad. On three days the food was so bad that I preferred not to eat anything. The spaghetti one day was okay and you could eat it.Surroundings: The surroundings were very beautiful with the dunes, but the adjacent path to the beach was very difficult to walk. There was a bus stop to go to the further areas.

The best thing is the location. The youth hostel is located directly behind the dunes, and the DLRG watches over what is happening on the beach. The rooms are typical youth hostel: very simple! The food is served as a buffet, extensive, with everything from healthy to unhealthy. Lots of convenience and only 3 stars in quality. The staff is very friendly and fulfills your wishes. Of course, there are a lot of (youth) groups here, which makes life here very turbulent. Conclusion: a good, cheap place to explore Sylt!
