What happened to the balaclava?The conversion was absolutely beautiful and very high quality.But: parking between 4 and 6 eurosOutdoor terrace: self-service in the afternoon.Line up obediently at the kiosk window. Place an order.You get a “beeper”.When the bell rings,pick up the ordered things and carry them to the table. :-(Then clear the table and put the dishes inPlace the clearing cart.The only thing missing is that you, as a guest, have the table yourselfneeds to be wiped off.People...This experience is embarrassing and no one brings it to Kampen! !!

The balaclava in Kampen shows how top gastronomy works. The kiosk for lunchtime visits is great, but the balaclava is particularly impressive thanks to the fantastic restaurant in the evening. The service is of a high standard and the food is simply top, for me one of the best restaurants on the island.

Spontaneous visit to the Balaclava: What a warm and uncomplicated welcome and that directly from the owner himself: Felix, he knows his business, no question about it. Competence and hospitality, someone who has looked beyond the island and seen the world, that is noticeable and can be found in many details. The dessert creations are second to none, the ambience rounds everything off... enthusiasm and for us a table for dinner the next evening: guaranteed.Felix: keep it up, that's what's needed here on the island! Big compliment!P.S. Award-winning beer from our own house, a tasty masterpiece!Only a visit to the restaurant, so no rating or comment on the hotel... I'm sure that will come!

Downgrade August 2024:The food in the restaurant was excellent. The service started well; We were asked when we would like to start the main course. Unfortunately, the bread plates were not cleared away for dinner and we had to remember to pour and refill the wine. The now empty aperitif glasses remained standing; We then put them on the counter ourselves. This has to work better, dear balaclava team.Unfortunately, there is another negative point: the acoustics in the large, round room are so loud at peak times that we could hardly have a meaningful conversation at the table. There are sound deflectors mounted on the ceiling, but they are far from enough.All in all, this clouds the good impression from last year.Regarding the kiosk: Unfortunately, the price-performance ratio is no longer suitable here.Old review from 2023:Very successful outdoor area, either protected under a large, storm-proof umbrella (weather permitting, otherwise open) or on the outdoor terrace right next to it. The “kiosk” offers delicious drinks and food to pick up yourself.

Beautiful location!It was our first time in the balaclava and we were very impressed: Very friendly welcome, a high-quality room with a view over the dunes to the North Sea, a delicious, cozy breakfast on the terrace...Our dog was also very welcome.We'll definitely be back; a thank you to the whole team!

Very nice location right in the dunes. Great view. Good parking situation.At the kiosk, however, prices and quality do not match. Offering a semi-banished, thin, tasteless waffle with a minimal amount of powdered sugar for €6.50 is quite daring. The other dishes weren't convincing either. Compared to two years ago, the development here is unfortunately more negative. A pity.

Today, we were at the Sturmhaube twice and had two different experiences.At first, we paid a visit around lunch time. The playground for kids was remarkable:A bobby-car race track, a flying fox, and a multifunction climbing-sliding tower. We had amazing fries and a variety of well prepared drinks, even barista coffee. We enjoyed it a lot.Based on our experience during the day; we made a reservation for dinner and were looking forward to it. When we arrived, we were given a nice table outside with a stunning view. The menue was well written and we ordered a variety of food: fish, vegetarian, truffle pasta, steak and chicken filet for our little one. The prices were quite high, even for Sylt. When the food arrived, we were unpleasantly surprised. The amount of food was not even suitable to feed an adult and would have been starters at best. The quality overall was very good, except for the chicken filet, which was deep frozen, which is a no-go for a kitchen of this class.Overall, our evening experience was sub-par. We will come back to the beach bar, but not the restaurant.

Today we paid a visit to the beach kiosk in the Sturrnkappe. Conclusion: fantastic location in the dunes of Kampen - unfortunately self-service with demanding prices here too.
