Nice youth hostel that can actually be gluten-free if you let us know in advance. Good breakfast buffet, nice staff, great location. Quiet, close to nature, good and spacious outdoor facilities, ideal for active children and groups.

You can tell that it is one of the oldest youth hostels. Very friendly staff enhances the rather simple furnishings. Food is sufficient, but highlights are missing, but there is something for every taste. Various sports options on site, a kiosk with an unexpectedly long opening time (10 p.m.), snack and drinks vending machines, and games that can be borrowed ensure there is enough variety in the house. Various tourist destinations are nearby. Definitely recommended as a starting point if you don't find the youth hostel atmosphere with (clean) communal toilets and showers intimidating.

We spent a few days in the youth hostel. It is close to the old town and the open-air museum and yet in the middle of the countryside without any car noise. The food was plentiful and tasty. What could be improved and has already been mentioned here is the cleanliness of the floors in the room and bathroom. Therefore a star deduction for “room”. The DJH team is very friendly.ACCESSIBILITY: There is a wheelchair-accessible room with a barrier-free bathroom👍🏻.We would love to come back.

The service was very nice and the facility was also very nice. Unfortunately there was no toilet or shower in the room and the WiFi connection wasn't particularly stable, but the rooms were clean. So highly recommended and the surroundings are also very beautiful.

I had a room with 2 single beds and a sink as a single room. For 3 rooms there were 2 toilets and a full bathroom with a shower. That was great, even if it was across the aisle. The beds were very comfortable.The staff super friendly. The youth hostel has a water dispenser and a coffee bar and fruit where you can always help yourself (coffee for a fee).The dinner and breakfast were great.

Very nicely located youth hostel in the countryside, food was delicious and plentiful, our 6-bed rooms were equipped with a sink. Toilet and showers in the hallway. The only point of criticism: cleanliness of the rooms. We first swept again, removed older cobwebs and disposed of other leftovers from our predecessors. There is still room for improvement here. The Hermanns Monument is easy to reach on foot, as is the city center of Detmold, which is beautifully preserved and maintained. Within the traffic ring there is a small semicircle-shaped stream around the old town with green areas and play opportunities. The Palais Garden with its old trees and water features is also well worth seeing.

Beautiful youth hostel in a really great location. Very nice staff and a spacious outdoor area. We particularly liked the small soccer court, where we could play soccer as a family of four. The rooms are ok, just as you would expect from a youth hostel.

We were a choir group of around 30 people in the youth hostel for a weekend. We had both rooms with bunk beds and rooms with 140 beds, each with a direct bathroom connection. The bunk beds were quite narrow, but otherwise quite acceptable. The bathroom was also big enough and everything was clean. The breakfast, lunch and dinner buffets were always very tasty. We had also requested vegan dishes beforehand and so everyone was able to eat well and eat enough over the weekend without any problems. We particularly liked the salad buffet at lunch and dinner in the warm temperatures. We had access to a water dispenser throughout the day, which fortunately also provided chilled water and soda. The outdoor area is large and beautifully laid out with seating, table tennis, chess field, snack garden, clearing frame, fireplace and large lawn. The employees were all very nice and accommodating, so we felt very comfortable. The rehearsal room was suitable for around 25 people, but more would not have been possible; that should be taken into account when considering the number of people. The Herrmann Monument is about an hour's walk away, so there are also beautiful hiking and cycling tours from the youth hostel.

There are exciting reviews here. We were there as a family passing through. Again and actually gladly. It is a more classic youth hostel. Nothing fancy. Good location in the middle of the region's tourist destinations. Unfortunately something very far out from Detmold. Parking is tight in summer. And that's where you meet. Youth groups, hikers and families. The lounge and breakfast correspond to a normal JuHe. Friendly welcome. Why are there push-button faucets in the showers? That's actually a bit sturdy.Everything else is there - up to the drinking water fountain.

So the rooms and the food were really bad. The rooms weren't really clean and there were ants in the bard's room, and the food wasn't tasty at all, it was just frozen stuff, so only 1 star.
