Beautiful castle tainted by hostile front deskWhen I arrived in the evening of April 12th, I checked in with a helpful woman at the front desk. She confirmed with me that I already paid online through Expedia, and let me know that there was an issue with the payment transfer. She said she wasn’t sure what to do, and that I should speak with her colleague in the morning. After breakfast the next morning, I went to the front desk expecting to show her my receipt of payment again or something of the like, but instead, after I said, “Good morning, your colleague last night asked me to check with you about my payment?” She responded, “Yes, cash or credit?” I was taken aback, and responded that I already paid online. “Yes well, I don’t have it, it’s not open” was her response. I was confused, and trying to understand the problem, asked what wasn’t working. She began angrily punching in the numbers of the virtual credit card that Expedia provides hotels when you book through them. When it didn’t work again, she looked at me and just said, ”Cash or credit?” Still confused, I said, “Yes but I’ve already paid” and she said, “Well I like to have my money.” I asked if this had ever happened before and if there was a way to contact Expedia, and she did not respond. I asked again if we could call Expedia, and she said, I quote, “YOU can call Expedia. I’m not calling anybody.” I stepped to the side and called the Expedia helpline. I explained the situation and the representative put me on hold while he called the hostel. I sat in the lobby as the office phone rang and the woman answered. They were on the phone for about a minute and when she hung up, the representative came back to my line. He explained that it was a problem with their virtual credit card, and that he would forward the issue on, but I could get off the line. He would call the hostel back and work with them directly. As I hung up and went to go talk with the front desk again, she put up a sign in the office window and walked away. The phone immediately began ringing, from I suspect the Expedia representative calling, and she was nowhere to be found. I stood there in disbelief as the phone rang three separate times. I tried to walk around to find her (?) so they could resolve the issue— an issue that without resolution would result in her continuing to demand that I pay for the entire stay twice— but she had been gone for a while now and the phone wasn’t ringing anymore. It felt like she was actively, blatantly refusing to be helpful. When she finally did come back, I explained that Expedia would get into contact with her, and that they had been trying for the past ~10 minutes. I explained that the issue was with their virtual credit card, and if she would speak with them the issue could be resolved. Her response was, “Ok, well maybe it will be fine, but I’ll see you in the morning.” Admittedly I felt rather uneasy about this conclusion, so after leaving the hostel to go to the city center, I decided to call Expedia again to see if they had been able to contact the hostel. It was a different representative so I explained the entire situation, including the fact that the hostel refused to call Expedia directly and was simply demanding that I pay the full amount to them. He put me on hold to call the hostel, then came back and said they were not answering the phone. I asked if he could instead email them with the correct virtual card information and he said he would. When I got back to the hostel that afternoon, it was a 3rd person at the front desk. I asked about my payment and she just said, “oh it’s all ok now!” I asked for a receipt, which they printed out and was time stamped to 20 minutes after I called Expedia the 2nd time. Apparently the email worked, but I would’ve appreciated not being actively thwarted by the angry front desk lady in the process. Really cool medieval architecture and clean bedrooms. Unfortunately would not stay here again.

As a family, we like to spend city trips in youth hostels and are better off there than in hotels.+ Good location+ Ambience of the castle+ Beautiful outdoor dining area+ The neighboring Oberhaus restaurant is highly recommended- we were on the 3rd floor of the main building. The window is very small and the room was very musty despite constant ventilation. JVA charm ;-) .- the hallway door on the 3rd floor closes automatically. But with such a bang that the whole floor wakes up. This can be improved with simple adjustment.- Not enough sockets in the room. Therefore, all smartphones could not be charged at once- Unfortunately there are only baked rolls for breakfast, no egg, no ham.- we love the play spaces in the youth hostels. Not this one, however. The table tennis table net was broken. Kicker against coin insertion. Dart against coin insertion. And unfortunately also totally stuffy air again.- the price is more expensive than some good hotels in Passau.Too bad! More can be done here.Unfortunately, we cannot recommend the youth hostel.

Very nice youth hostel where my daughter was on a school trip. We also visited this, a really beautiful historical complex.

Overall, a good, solid youth hostel that I would stay in again.The rooms were pleasantly furnished and the space wasn't luxurious but definitely enough. 🏠The room was a bit dusty in some places and there were a few unwanted guests in room 44 at the time we were there: small silver fish from the sink 🖇️🐟. Not so great 🥴. (I think this will be fixed in the future)The food was good in my opinion, it was warm twice a day, which definitely makes a difference. There was always a usually delicious dessert.🍨

We were there over New Year's Eve and had 3 really nice days there. Everything was very clean, the food was good, especially the breakfast was better than in some hotels, the view is unbeatable, the person was very friendly. The children are already asking when we will go on holiday there again.

We were there for our family reunion. We felt very comfortable both in preparation and on site. The team has organized a mega New Year's Eve program that can be recommended without reservation.

We spent New Year's Eve 2023/24 with our entire family (26 people of each age group) in this beautiful, well-kept youth hostel. Our expectations were exceeded by 100%. The always friendly staff responded to our individual wishes, offered us our own common room and always took care of our, not always low, demands. You could tell from the start that you were welcome as a guest. The friendly kitchen staff always noticed very quickly when something was missing. They brought a cup of hot water for tea without you having to ask for it directly (that was very thoughtful). The organization on New Year's Eve was totally festive and inviting. The tables were nicely decorated, the buffet was varied and excellently prepared and the pre-ordered main course was served very quickly and deliciously. The supporting program was lovingly and warmly designed. Something for every age group. The staff was really very friendly. The fireworks over Passau were absolutely outstanding, despite the occasional fog.The rooms and sanitary facilities were clean and in order.Everything at reception went very quickly and seemed well organized.The location of the youth hostel couldn't be better. The adjacent castle museum, where entry was free during our visit, is definitely worth a visit.In summary, it can be said that a visit to the hostel is definitely worth it. I can't sleep brother in this room the service was ok but not that good.

Nice location, but only partially suitable for cyclists due to the 22% gradient. My biggest criticism is the hot water supply. You have to let the water run for at least 3 minutes until it gets really warm. Absolutely ecologically unacceptable. There are signs in the bathroom asking people to save water. Unfortunately this is not possible for structural reasons; the water simply doesn't want to get warm. A better system is urgently needed.
