Very nice youth hostel and very good food. We felt completely comfortable. Family-friendly (climbing wall and games rooms) and well connected to public transport and hiking trails.

We had a very nice few days here in the youth hostel. The staff is extremely friendly, everything is very clean and the food is delicious and even organic.Oberammergau and the surrounding area are beautiful and offer many opportunities for sporting activities. We'd love to come back.

Hello,For now, to classify it: 4 stars for “there is nothing to complain about” and 5 for “extraordinary”.It's not a hotel, but for a JHB it's really nice. The staff is very nice, even if they were only there for 2x2 hours (but we weren't there the rest of the time). There is a climbing wall, table tennis table and table football, play areas and seating. That makes it a little louder, which doesn't seem to bother anyone, but it's a great place to keep the kids busy on a rainy day.The food is not a restaurant 5☆ menu but it tastes good. (Something like a glass, made of plastic as far as I'm concerned, would make me a little happier.)It is beautifully located, opposite the Kofel, about 10-15 minutes from the train station and various mountains and hiking trails are within walking distance. And once you're done with the surrounding area, you can use local transport for free with your spa card.So all in all, nothing to complain about.

Never again DJH Youth Hostel OberammergauWe stayed in the youth hostel with a group of students. The reception staff were very friendly and helpful. Unfortunately I can't say the same about the kitchen staff. You weren't even allowed to get a cup from the kitchen at 7:25 a.m. to make your own coffee in your room. You were immediately reprimanded by the chef, in a very harsh tone. However, the group leader of the Bavarian tour group was allowed to get the coffee earlier. Well, the regular customers (the one who has been coming and going there for 15 years also secured his right to various special treatments in his 5* review on Google ;-) seem to have privileges. The house was full of screaming 5th graders who were also allowed to run in the dining room and climb up on the benches. Neither teachers nor the kitchen staff, who are otherwise so strict towards Berliners, took action here. On the day of departure, our group didn't get any pancakes; they were only given out to the "regular customers". I can't understand the good reviews on Google. All negative reviews were systematically removed from Google. I've seen quite a few youth hostels over the years and, with the best will in the world, I can't understand the 5 stars for the food. For dinner there is only one dish (potatoes, rice, pasta) and occasionally meat. It is absolutely cheap. Once there were vegetable patties, unfortunately from the freezer. The “salad buffet” is absolutely poorly designed. I have to say, the other hostels offer healthier and more varied food. The students had to use a shared bathroom, but this was advertised as a “private bathroom across the hall.” There are simple washing and toilet cells in a shared bathroom that can be locked with the room key.All in all, never again Jgh Oberammergau. Everyone just come to Berlin instead. Here there is kebab for everyone, bread, vegetables, meat and great sauces.

I have to say something about the previous reviews: A group from Berlin that has the impression that they have booked themselves into a wellness resort is simply out of place. It is a youth hostel and not a hotel. The rooms are functional and better than hostels found in cities. Each room has its own bathroom. But what more do you need than a toilet, sink and shower? I've been going there with 5th graders for 15 years now and was there at the same time with this Berlin school. I have rarely experienced such a sense of entitlement and arrogant behavior. The food was good as always, you can have it at any time. The breakfast buffet is always fresh and very sufficient (even homemade hummus). A teacher complained massively that there were no eggs!About the staff: They are always helpful and there are solutions for everything. But anyone who is so rude at the reception (and I witnessed it) will also receive an appropriate response (friendly but clear).Anyone who books a group trip through Alpetours should find out in advance what the location offers. You can read that the swimming pool has been closed for years, as has the cinema. But the teachers at reception also complained about this. Need I say more?

I stayed with a group of students for five nights. The house is clean and well-kept, the food is delicious and very plentiful, and the staff is consistently helpful, courteous and extremely friendly. The location is picturesque directly on the Ammer below the Kofel, the nearest bus stop is a five-minute walk away. No wishes remain unfulfilled.

This week I went to this hostel with my class and another class. The rooms take some getting used to because of the bright colors, but you get used to them after a day. The service and the employees are extremely friendly and are almost always available except in the evening. The location of the hostel is very good, but you have to walk at least 8 minutes to the next grocery store. Thank you for the time and nerves that the employees took for us.

The youth hostel in Oberammergau is beautifully situated surrounded by mountains and a river. It has been completely renovated and offers colorful rooms that either have an integrated bathroom and balcony, or you have your own bathroom, which is just across the hall.We particularly liked the indoor leisure activities with a pool table, table tennis table, a bouldering wall and many board games, all of which can be used independently, as well as the additional high climbing wall, which can be used with a climbing guide and all the climbing equipment available. We had a lot of fun with the two-hour guided climbing experience.There is a great outdoor low ropes course. We also used the very inexpensive washing and drying facility and were very satisfied with it.We were extremely enthusiastic about the food on offer, which is very diverse, fresh and health-conscious, and consists largely of organic products. All employees provided friendly and detailed information; we also received tips on hiking routes, climbing rocks, cable cars and using public transport with the spa card.

We had a great vacation at DJH Oberammergau and will be back soon! Simply the most relaxed way for families to go on vacation. Nice clean room with bathroom and really tasty food. The staff is consistently very friendly and helpful. For the children there is a bouldering wall, table tennis, table football and space to run around and play in the basement. The games cupboard was well sorted and the games were complete. The idea with the climbing wall and the converted soccer room is also really great.The only criticism: there is hardly any possibility to sit down comfortably in the evening. The seating in the dining room, lounge and room has no backrest (benches and stools) and the bean bags in the foyer are virtually empty and you sit on the floor. The seating area with two small sofas is certainly modern, but unfortunately extremely uncomfortable and mostly occupied. It would be great if the bean bags could be made usable again with a good portion of filling and perhaps additional seating options with backrests could be set up, there is space.The meal time in the evening was very early and short, one hour from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. As a result, it was always very crowded and loud and if you didn't arrive on time you had difficulty finding a seat. The food is so delicious that you definitely want to enjoy it in peace. It would be great if there was a second meal time from 7-8pm.Kind regards to the great team at DJH Oberammergau!!!

Great house! Very nice staff, especially the two employees in the kitchen who treated me to vegan food with a lot of humor and creativity. Better quality and taste than some hotels I've been to. Thank you for that ❤️. The common areas and the room were very clean and it is within walking distance from the train station. The communication in advance about the vegan supply (special details should be communicated in advance) was prompt and also very friendly. I'd love to come back 🤗
