We had our first real meal of the day in the youth hostel. Pasta with Bolognese was on the menu, but in fact there was pasta that wasn't cooked through and a sauce with beans and hardly any meat. Then we came to the rooms. The rooms are a bit small and only one socket for 3 people in my case and in some cases 1 socket for 8 people. The bathrooms were very bad and not clean. The beds were uncomfortable and dirty and the rooms had an unpleasant smell. The beach was close but that didn't improve the overall impression. The fact that the youth hostel is in a neighboring town on the island also makes the route to the main town difficult. The staff forced you to say “good morning” or “moin” in the morning and became more and more annoyed when guests didn’t say hello. WiFi was also only usable in the cafeteria/food outlet. My overall impression is that the youth hostel is not recommended if you want to enjoy the island. My suggestion for improvement would be, firstly, to cook the food completely and not to add meat substitutes such as beans to dishes for people who don't eat vegan. Secondly, the rooms will be renovated and the socket situation will be improved and the toilets and showers will be improved. And thirdly, that the staff works on their attitude and behavior towards guests

The Juist youth hostel impresses with its fantastic location near the beach, beautiful large grounds and a charismatic main building. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The food for a youth hostel was great - we liked it and it was sufficient, although as we all know, tastes differ. But we give you big praise here.We can also only comment favorably on the beautifully designed, modern reception area and the dining room. Now we come to the BUT:The rooms and sanitary facilities were clean, but very old. We were staying in the main house and when I first looked at our 4-bed room I felt like crying. When I visit a youth hostel, I don't expect a 3-star hotel and I can ignore the somewhat outdated interior as long as it's clean. But what we found was bad, especially since you now pay quite a bit of money to stay in a hostel with children. The wallpaper was coming off the walls and sometimes had more stains than the original wall paint. The sink corner was stained and not very inviting to freshen up, the mirror and basin were too high for children. The shelves are far too small and unsuitable for clothes and difficult to reach for (small) children who actually stay there. There is a lack of hooks for wet towels and accessible storage space. There is also no lockable compartment for valuables and the room door didn't seem very stable, meaning it was easy to crack. The beds were not only outdated, but also totally uncomfortable and worn out. Our backs still hurt terribly now, two days after we went home. There was no proper ladder to get up, no bed protection or lamps on the bed itself. It would have been difficult to find space for an extra bed as an alternative. (We were traveling with two small children - 1 and 3 years). The big one could hardly get up because the distance between the holes provided in the bedpost was far too large, meaning it was almost impossible to reach. We were afraid that he would fall. Sleeping upstairs was also too tricky for us adults as everything was very wobbly and would have woken the children up every time they went to the toilet etc. You could have borrowed a bed lamp and fall protection as well. But we read this in the brochure too late because we didn't have the time for it with small children and the bright ceiling light in the room doesn't encourage reading in the evening when the children are finally asleep. A note at check-in would be desirable. When we asked for another room, we were told that the other free rooms were in a similar condition and that we couldn't renovate them after every school class.Maybe not, but finally a renovation would be urgently needed. When it came to the stains on the walls, we didn't want to get too close to them; if possible, our little ones shouldn't go there at all. There was also a lack of hooks, storage space (stools, shelves), etc. in the room and the sanitary facilities. There was also no comfortable common room on our floor, so with small children you only had your own room in the evening so you could be close to them (baby monitor didn't reach into the dining room, etc.) and it was always on other levels - so not suitable for us. Here you could choose between uncomfortable, worn stools or a bed. Not very inviting - doesn't create a holiday feeling. What's particularly bad, however, is that all of these points of criticism have been mentioned so often in reviews over the last few years and yet hardly anything or NOTHING has been done so far. Too bad!As long as the rooms have not been renovated, we probably won't come back, as even school children shouldn't be accommodated like this. It's unfortunate that people seem to be resting on the good location here, because the shabby rooms are out of all proportion to the nice staff, the great food and the good design and cleaning of the facility itself.Tip: A few swings in the outdoor area would also be great.

Very nice hostel in terms of location. The dining room and the reception/lounge room have been beautifully renovated and the service makes you feel like you are in good hands and comfortable.Unfortunately, the rooms and sanitary facilities are getting old.It doesn't have to be the case that there is black mold, limescale deposits and more in the showers. This could or should have been changed on site long ago.Makes a really bad impression. I'm not using any pictures herethat I made.Nevertheless, I would like to say that we felt in good hands.

The Juist Youth Hostel impresses with its top location and great commitment! The rooms themselves are simply furnished, but clean, bright and attractive. The complex itself is wonderful, the bistro is open until the evening and there is plenty of seating outside and inside. The food was simple but sufficient and very tasteful. The entire staff really tries hard. Simply great!

All of the rooms in the youth hostel (except the dining room and reception) are old and in need of renovation. The outdoor facilities are fine. The cleanliness and friendliness of the staff and the management, Danny, are excellent.I would like to go there again when it has been modernized.

We booked a double room with a private bathroom. The booking confirmation only said there was a twin room. Nothing bad in my mind. When we arrived we were disillusioned: we were given a three-bed room, so on the one hand we couldn't sleep next to each other and on the other hand one of us had to sleep in a bunk bed. This meant that staying in bed was only possible for sleeping (no seating height in the loft bed). According to the reception, rooms with a double bed have not been offered for a long time. The problem with the description according to the Internet and the difference to reality is known, but cannot be solved by the house itself.Unfortunately, the reception was another point of criticism. Despite opening hours, some guests were unable to check in promptly because the staff was unavailable for a long period of time. There is no WiFi reception in the room. The bathroom was in a really disgusting condition and the shower was the smallest I've ever been in. The loft beds are the old model without a ladder. We have often been guests in youth hostels and always tell everyone that the old prejudices are no longer true. Unfortunately, they still apply here.

The rooms were very clean and well maintained. The staff is very friendly and helpful. It seems like a big family. We felt very comfortable and would love to come back. The location in Loog is perfect. Super large outdoor area. All gaming devices worked. Good cheap bike rental in the neighborhood. The food was varied and always a vegetarian/vegan option. In short: perfect!

We cannot share the many negative reviews. The location is great, especially because it is away from the main town. Here you can really slow down. The children can play. We had a family room in the main house with a toilet and shower in the hallway. Beach entrance, general store, bicycle rental and transport service right around the corner.Only the sanitary facilities could use a renovation.
